Hello Everyone,
It is possible I missed something on this discussion. I have never seen a
daughter listed for James Campbell, s/o George Campbell d. 1791 Amherst Co
VA.
George and Caty Campbell of Amherst Co VA had a son named James Campbell, he
married Sara Moran on March 17, 1800. They presumably moved away, as he
sold his inheritance to his older brother John Campbell. I have never seen
anyone researching or descended from this James Campbell. Do we have
descendants now?
Mr. Harris researches his ancestor James Campbell, Sr who lived in Nelson Co
VA and married Mary Smith, d/o Abraham Smith. It has never been established
how (of if) this James Campbell, Sr was related to George Campbell d. 1791.
Now you have an Elizabeth Campbell, d/o James, s/o George Campbell d 1791,
who married a John Smith. Is this confirmed? I have never seen this
before. (or if I did I sure forgot it). Is this John Smith in anyway
related to the Abraham Smith family in Nelson Co VA? I realise that Smith
is a common name.
Do we have any siblings for Elizabeth Campbell, d/o James? Where did they
live? Rockbridge Co VA? Many, many families named Campbell who lived in
Rockbridge Co VA started off first in Amherst Co VA.
A. T. Powell, Jr gave a listing like this:
1. John Moran (m. Sarah)
2. Nicholas Moran (m. Winfred Coffey)
3. Sarah Moran (m. James Campbell, s/o George and Caty Campbell of Amherst
Co VA)
4. Elizabeth Campbell (m. John Smith)
5. Abram Smith
6. Leland Smith
7. Jane Stuart Smith
My comment about this: The COFFEY family married numerous times into the
Francis Campbell, Sr (m. Isabelle) family line of Nelson Co VA. It is
already proven that Francis Campbell, Sr is closely related to George
Campbell (m. Caty). This was proven by DNA testing of descendants.
Carol Harlow is a COFFEY family specialist (among many other names). Carol
might shed some light on this.
James Campbell, s/o George and Caty, has always been a mystery to me. I
have a page for him in my notebook, that page has just his wife and marriage
date, and no children or census reports, nothing. If anyone can come up
with more info on James Campbell and his descendants, we might find some
connections to Fountain or others.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin
