Just so you know, I have proof of my Campbell line and have gone into DAR and several
organizations on my Campbell family. Believe me, I am very aware that you have to have
proof.

Now, this is interesting. At one point, three months ago, the elder Richard
Campbell was the RW Richard Campbell, but now he is not? So, we have someone
named Richard Campbell, 80-90, in Hickman CO TN that no one knows who he
belongs to? I did notice that in 1830, this Richard had a neighbor, John Murry,
which he still has in 1840 where he is listed with all his sons...Richard Dir,
Hiram, Tubal, William. Sure you got the right one there? If no one wants to
claim him, I''ll give it a stab, tho I still think this is one and the same.
The Haywood Richard Campbell has three males with him 20-30....who were they?
One could be Tubal 24, one Wiley 26 and one ?? as well as a male 40-50 ?? (
James from the 1820 Perry census?? thought he died and Cyrus and John were
living where he had lived, according to the same neighbors in the next
census)) plus Richard 70-80. Hiram 1790 was in Hickman. John 1793 was in Perry
(unless that no longer applies now) Richard Dir 1797 in Hickman and William 1799
in Perry. If this has changed then we now have a lot of loose Campbells
running around. Since my William 1776 named a son Richard, perhaps this is his
Richard 80-90. Who knows. As to the naming pattern, they had started to drift
from that around 1850 and I have found most of William's boys allowed the kids
to be named after the wife's family. William 1776 had a John, James,
William, Hiram, Lewis, Richard and" possibly" a Samuel that shows up next to
James
in the 1860 census after William has passed. John, Samuel and Richard all
seemed to have ties with Lawrence CO. Richard and" Samuel" were probably the
last
two males listed with William in the 1850 census. I state "possible" because
some people out there will list information with no more proof than
speculation...and that is all it is. As Margie said, you can trace paper trails. It is
so wrong to do that and no true genealogist or family researcher goes on
assumption. If they did, I wouldn't trust their work. An educated guess, is
fine, as long as that is stated. At this point, there were three Campbell
families in Hickman......one was of Hiram Campbell, that belonged to Richard, one of
William Campbell 1776 and one from a Mary Campbell, that again, possibly,
was a Denton and married an unknown Campbell. As to, were they related?? More
than likely but no proof at this time. I believe someone stated that William
1776 was a possible "little brother" to Richard...based on similar names?? I
was thinking Carolyn Clark had listed Richard as having brothers James and
William 1756. Perhaps she can clarify what she based that on when she can get
to her notes. Hopefully the DNA results will indicate if they were even of
the same bloodline since Richard was of the Viking strain. That will help
tremendously. At least will know if I am barking up the right/wrong tree. Believe
me, this was a last resort. I am aware there were a lot of Campbells in the
same county that were not related but with these, can't determine. I would
come more thinking William was a nephew, not brother, of Richard's. They lived
at separate ends of Hickman CO and William seemed to have more ties to
Maury/Lewis CO.
