Thanks, A.T. Among other things, that is one of the reasons I suspect my
William and old Richard may have been brothers. It is known that Richard was
the son of James Campbell.
We also know that Rachel was a daughter of John Smith who was their neighbor
in Richmond County, NC (1790); then in Fairfield County, SC (1800); came on
with them to Tennessee where John died in 1825. Some other clues there too.
My William was born in North Carolina, his wife and first two or three kids
in South Carolina.
This is awful to have to admit but I know a lot more about Richard than
about my William. Just because there is more to know. He drew a
Revolutionary pension, his wife drew a widow's pension and his father-in-law
named him in his will.

Actually, we don't exactly have the same family! My line is through William
and Jane Campbell of Hickman County. I believe but, cannot prove, that
William was a considerably younger brother of Richard. Both were millers,
each named their < PLEASE NOTE, THE Fact that Both of theseCampbells Did
name their First Sons <James> IS Following The Child Nameinf Parretn OF The
Campbell's of That ERA eldest son James, Then Following the Child Nameing
Practice,The Second Son was named after the Mother's Father & the tfird Son
was to be Named after the Father each named a son < NOTE Hiram, < <Hiram ??
William & Richard Campbell, IT Could very well be that the Campbell boys
married SISTERS, Whose Father was < HIRAM, Then THE Child Nameind Practice,
