Hi,
Did you receive the information I sent?
As you may have seen the Campbell Family became part of the Kennedy Family
when Lady Isabel Campbell, daughter of Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll
married Gilbert Kennedy, 4th Lord Kennedy,2nd Earl of Cassillis.
This Kennedy line was of Sir Gilbert Kennedy of Dunure, b. before 1356,
progenitor of the Earls of Cassilis.
In the year 1366, Gilbert Kennedy of Dunure, progenitor of the Earls of
Cassilis, obtained a charter from David II.(Son of King Robert I Bruce), who was
so ready to give grants of lands belonging to others to covetous supporters.
This charter was one of confirmation, as heir to his father, John Kennedy. Both
father and son had made themselves very serviceable to the king, the later
having been one of his hostages in England. Neither Sir John nor Sir Gilbert,
however, obtained possession.
Here we see the Kennedy connection to the Bruce family. The Campbell Family
of those days were close to the Bruce Family.
This Kennedy Line went down to Sir James Kennedy, of Dunure, Younger, who
married Lady Mary Stewart, daughter of Robert III Stewart, King of Scotland and
Annabel Drummond. Sir James Kennedy and Lady Mary Stewart had children.
Their daughter, Mary Kennedy married Andrew Agnew of Lochnaw, 1st Hereditary
Sheriff of Galloway.
A son Gilbert Kennedy, of Dunure, 1st Lord Kennedy had 2 Children that are
both in my Great Grandparent line. John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy, was the
Grandfather of Gilbert Kennedy, 4th Lord Kennedy,2nd Earl of Cassillis.
This Gilbert is the one who married Lady Isabel Campbell, daughter of
Archibald Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll. Their great Granddaughter, Margaret
Kennedy, married Sir Patrick Agnew, of Lochnaw 1st Bt, 8th Sheriff of Galloway.
Remember, a Kennedy of this line married an Agnew of Lochnaw, the 1st Sheriff
and here we have a Kennedy marry an Agnew of Lochnaw, the 8th Sheriff.
Another Agnew, Quentin Agnew, of Lochnaw, 3rd Hereditary Sheriff married a Kennedy
Descendent of Sir James Kennedy, of Dunure, Younger and Lady Mary Stewart.
This last Agnew marriage was to a Kennedy of this same line who was also a
Campbell Descendent.
One major thing to note is that all these people were descendents of King
Robert I Bruce who married each other. Agnews, Kennedy, and Campbell Family plus
various others that they married along the was were descendents of Robert
the Bruce through His Daughter, Marjorie Bruce who died on the side of the road
after a fall off a horse and her child, the future King Robert II Stewart, was
taken right there by section and she died right after the birth.
Many Kings of Scotland and England descended from this Woman. This was the
beginning of the House of Stewart (also Stuart).
I had several ancestors as a result of this including my Campbell line.
I will help in any way I can.
The site
ThePeerage.com is a very good site if a person has any connection to
get them back to that point. In fact it is great.

You can go back and forth from all these pages. Just click on the name you
wish to follow. It will carry you a long way and provide hours of fun. The
main problem is to have a place to start from here in this day and time. I was
very fortunate in my Agnew ling in that I had all the details that carried me
back to a place in the Agnew line.
For example I had all the details to carry me back to Sir Patrick Agnew of
Lochnaw, 1st Bt.

I could go back and forth as I pleased because I had the data to get me to
that place.
As an example I was able to follow up on the wife of Patrick, Margaret
Kennedy, that led me to the place where the Campbell family intersected the Kennedy
line and I could go off in that direction and the same with any path I took
that records were available for. From that I have been able to go to other
places and follow up.
I have good records now that go back a long, long way.
Write again,
Jimmie
