Andrew:
I suggest you post this to the list Gen-Medieval(a)rootsweb.com. You will
need to subscribe first by sending an email to

subscribe as the body of the message. Do not include a signature block.
There are at least two very knowledgeable Scots genealogists on that list.

Greetings,
Having recently posted to the Coll & Mull Argyle lists without success, I’m
now addressing this request to a broader audience, knowing that descendents
of the following settled in the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
We are working on a possible lineage for the three brothers who are buried
in the Crossapol graveyard on the Isle of Coll:
- Malcolm of Cornaig, Isle of Coll (1754 - 1822)
- Murdoch of Caoles, Isle of Coll (1763 - 1818)
- Neil, Tacksman of Sunipol, Isle of Mull (1766 - 1854) - my ancestor
We have a letter stating that their father was DONALD CAMPBELL, a cadet of
the House of Barbreck who we believe married a Maclean (perhaps the family
showing as living at Toraston in 1776 Census, though so far unproven). It
has been questioned if the father's name actually was Donald.
We are exploring the following line, and hope to extend it as far down as
possible:
1. Angus, Laird of Barbreck b. circa 1498 had 2 families.
- F1. son Colin, Laird of Barbreck; son Iain, b. circa 1540; dau. Agnes
- F2. son John; son Alexander
2. Colin, Laird of Barbreck has one daughter, Katherine, and no male issue;
3. Katherine, deemed heritrix of the estate of Barbreck married Archibald’s
(4th of Argyll) illegitimate son, Colin, upon which title was transferred
to
him, thus creating what is referred to as the Second House of Barbreck;
4. Angus of Barbreck's second son of F1 was Iain of Kintra, Ross of Mull,
Kilfinchen, Mull, had issue, son, Angus, b. circa 1578
(Iain and his descendents might consider themselves to be rightful
successors to the estate of Barbreck, with his elder brother having
provided
no male issue);
5. Iain had one son, Angus of Kintra, Ross of Mull, Kilfinchen, Mull, b.
circa 1578, who wedded a MacArthur, b. circa 1580 of Inchconell, and he
died aft. 6 July 1603.
Question: does anyone have knowledge of this last Angus, his wife and their
descendants, particularly with any pointers to a link to the three brothers
or their father referred above?
Many thanks in advance.
Andrew Campbell

Arthur Rae Campbell of 15th of October 1926 confirming his the very likely
descent of the line

daughter of Colin 8th of Barbreck who married Colin Campbell, natural son
of
Archibald, 4th Earl of Argyll in 1572.
