Betty,
I have a George Neal Campbell, born in Alabama in 1827, died in Boone
County, Arkansas, in 1884. He was the son of Richard Cox Campbell and Nancy
Ann Berry. This Campbell family moved to Arkansas in the early 1830's from
Madison County, Alabama.
I recently looked into a Campbell family from Lawrence County, Arkansas,
that had an early connection to Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. There was
a James Campbell who migrated to Lawrence County in 1812. He was married to
an Ursula Wilson. I believe he died in 1835. One of his sons was John W.
Campbell, who married Serena Byrd in 1836. When John W. Campbell died about
1847, Serena/Cyrena took their young son and daughter, Stephen James and
Minerva Elizabeth, to Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, where Serena then
died. Guardians were appointed, and Minerva returned to Lawrence County,
Arkansas, but Stephen remained in Cape Girardeau County. But, I'm not sure
that the family's connection to Cape Girardeau County was through the
Campbell family--it may have been the Byrd family.
Mike

John Campbell married his 2nd wife, Lavina Grainger, in Lafayette Co,
MO
in
1842. He is in Lafayette Co, MO, in 1840 census. In the 1830 census, he
may have been in Cape Giradeau Co, MO. Lavina's father, Thomas B.
Grainger,
came from NC to Johnson Co, MO. They seem to have migrated through
Tennessee.
Our John Campbell named one of his sons Neal Smith Campbell. I have not
seen Neal either before or after. Does anyone have that name in their
Campbell family?
