I read with interest your information on Campbells. I am looking for a Mary
Campbell (middle name possibly Argyle as one son also middle name of Argyle)
born 1758 supposedly in PA married a Samuel Elliott in Allentown, settled in
Newark OH. Any chance you have run across her parents?

Hi
Not really looking for Samuel Campbell in NJ, but am looking at a line in
Metuchen, Middlesex county, NJ (also Somerset county).
The person I started with was Ellis R. Campbell b 1756 in Metuchen,
Middlesex county, NJ. This Ellis R died in 1814 in Somerset county, NJ.
His wife was Nancy Ann Clawson (Claeson, Clausen, etc.). Nancy Clawson
Campbell moved to New York & was living there with her son, Freeman Campbell
in 1850. She died in 1852.
Ellis R had 6 sons and 4 or 5 daughters. I have omitted all but one son as
a possible father for Ellis Campbell b 1804 in VA...that is a Cornelius
Campbell b about 1784 in NJ.
It's said he married a Betsy Lennox in Davidson county, TN in 1804 (March
24)...but I see no proof it's the same person.
Ellis b 1804 and Fontaine b 1803 (both in VA) share a lot of dna..brothers
or cousins? We don't know.
Back to Ellis R of NJ...his father was Dugald Campbell (b 1732, d
1809)..Dugald was the son of Dugal Campbell (b 1699, d 1734)...his father is
said to be John b 1662, d 1733 & Mary b 1665...and his parents are said to
be a John & Mary Campbell.
I don't have all, but do think there is not a lot of proof of this.
I don't think the John (father of Dugal) died in Augusta co, VA, as some
researchers show..I think he died in NJ.
Also this line seems to be connected to Lord Neil Campbell in some way...not
sure how, if at all. From what I can find in Scots records, Lord Neil
returned to Scotland & did not return to America...so probably not buried
here.
