Thank you so much for answering Jim.
I actually have GREAT news. A new cousin from 23 and me (and we haven't even
sorted out how we are cousins yet!) was able to take the info I have and is
pretty sure she broke down my brick wall!!! I am so excited. Later today
she's going to send me info on my only-child g-grandfather's uncle
(gg-grandfather and the other brothers died in Civil War, no other
children). Since she found Uncle Samuel W, she located parents Jesse and
Sarah plus found Sarah's maiden name that I've never been able to locate!
AT--I will post when I get info but I don't know yet if they came from VA. I
have had them stuck in SC forever.
It's a happy day for me y'all. Hope yours is good too. I'll just sing in the
rain today!
More info soon

With 23andme there is good news and bad news. Actually two good newses
the second of which can also be bad news.
First good news: Cost is (from memory) $99 per kit.
Second good news: You get lots and lots of somewhat close matches.
Bad news: You get lots and lots of somewhat close matches.
The reason being that 23andme uses the autosomal DNA which is not just
the y-chromosome but all of the chromosomes.
The result is that you get matches from the descendants of all of your
ancestors, not just the male line as in FTDNA. So if one of your matches
is also a family historian/genealogist you may discover an entire new
line of your family.
I have a 3rd cousin, also a male Campbell whose relationship is proven,
and we aren't shown as being that closely related in 23andme. I have a
first cousin, once removed (female) and 23andme shows us to be either
first or second cousin. That's the way the ball bounces with 23andme.
I will attempt to answer as many questions as I can.
