Furness and Dan Godwin are still alive and well in Selma, Dallas county
Alabama. I do not know if a Campbell married a Godwin any where else or not.
I suppose it is very possible. All of my Campbells and Godwins are still in
Selma, Alabama.
Have you had a chance to look at my website yet? If there is still a
password on it...it is ...not4all.
Happy Hunting.

How do you do the DNA and will it work with a woman. I am the
2Greatgrandaughter of John L. M. Campbell through his son John Marion
Campbell and his daughter my Grandmother Emma Elizabeth Campbell, My
brother passed away last year so there is no Male left for us
The Y-DNA that is tested is passed from father to son. Thus, only males
can be tested and they can only be tested for the genetic family line back
through their male ancestors - father, grandfather, great grandfater, etc.
I am a McCray, can participate only in the McCray DNA test project, and
have done so. My father's mother's mother is my connection to the
Campbells, so I can't be tested for the Campbells.
Your brother could not have participated in the Campbell project, because
your grandmother breaks the male-only line back to the Campbells for you.
To test your line for the Campbells, you need to find a male second cousin
who has a male-only line back to John Marion Campbell or a third cousin
with a male-only line back to John L. M. Campbell. Of course the male-only
line cannot include any adoptions.
There is an X-DNA test available, but I don't know much about it, since it
doesn't apply to me. It still wouldn't help you on your Campbell line. It
would test your line through your mother, grandmother, great grandmother,
ect.
