Hi Leonard: Thank you for your inquiry. I started doing genealogy in 2003, but never did
very much on the Campbell side until 2006. When I first started with the Campbells I saw
several trees on line that had my 4th Great Grandfather listed as the son of William
Campbell b. 1718. I took that to be the truth and started from there.
It was only recently, as I put in comments on my family tree that I found out the
William Campbell b. 1736 in Georgetown ME was not the son of William b. 1718 but was the
son of William b. 1708 in Ireland brother of Alexander Campbell who came over to Boston in
1729 with Alexander Drummond. I have the vital records on the siblings of William b. 1736
and their parents are listed as William Campbell and Elizabeth. I also got information
from another girl who is researching this family telling me about my William b. 1708 that
she had gotten from the Georgetown Historical Society.
I found the information on William b. 1718 in the Book on line at Google entitled
"Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine"
George Thomas Little, A. M., Litt. D. and Rev. Henry S. Burrage, D. D. published by
the Lewis Historical Publishing Company New York 1909.
As I looked more at the different trees on line with William b. 1718 marrying Elizabeth
in 1729 I thought he would of only of been 11 years old.?????? Something didn't add
up so I started researching for the true information. Hopefully I have it now.
The info that you sent me checks out with some of what I already have on William b.
1718.
I have info on James Campbell b. 1728 on my tree. There are several trees on Ancestry
that have the other people that you asked about. Do you have an ancestry subscription? I
was on there last night and saw several of the names that you asked if I had.
The only way that I could be related to James Campbell now is through his second wife
Sarah. She was the widow of John Thompson who was in my line. I am looking into that now
and trying to verify that.
I would be happy to let you take a look at the personal tree that I have but I want you
to know that I am connected to William b. 1708 in Ireland and not the William b. 1718. I
have them both on my tree and will leave it like it is until I get further information.
I am looking for the parents of William b. 1708 and Alexander Campbell b. around 1690 -
1700.
The line going back into Ireland and Scotland is correct under William b. 1718 only.
On the William b. 1708 the line going forward into Georgetown ME is correct.
Hope I haven't completely confused you.
There are many sources on James Campbell and his family in my tree. Census, Books,
Campbell Clan Information, etc.
Enjoy looking at it and I hope you get some information from it.
