Good morning,
On the < campbell_kids(a)yahoogroups.com > I spotted a post
that made me pay very close attention. Close enough that
I took a moment to respond with a couple of questions.
Not everyone hunting CAMPBELL's are on the same list...
so I am also posting my reply here.
I am hoping that someone on this list has an answer
to my questions regarding Charles, son of Gilbert. *S*

Carol,
I worked in the Rockbridge County Courthouse on Friday the 21st and found
the same number of Samuel's as you.
I did find the family connections between Samuel D. (married to Jane
Orbison) and Samuel L. (married to Sarah Alexander). Samuel D. was the son
of Samuel L. and
Samuel L. was the son of Charles, the son of Gilbert Campbell.

Did you happen to find...who that Charles married??
If so...when?? Was there possibly a Will there for that
Charles, son of Gilbert??
This Charles has long been on my family's research radar,
as a possible I.D. for our Charles Sr, but the only thing
that we've ever found was Gilbert's 1751 Will...that lists
his son, Charles, as an "infant".
Nothing that we've ever found has given an actual idea as
to his dob. Being listed as an infant could have just meant that...he was
under his majority and not in nappies.
If the stats on this Charles, son of Gilbert, can be found
then I can finally either rule him out... or prove him.
I honestly don't mind ruling him out. That will at least
shorten up the rather long list of Charles's that are all
along the eastern seaboard born between 1725 and 1740. *S*

I checked every marriage record, will, and deed for anyone named Samuel
Campbell up to 1850s, not finding anything that would appear to fit our
Samuel Campbell. I am 98% sure he did not own any land in Rockbridge County.
Since he was on the 1820 Rockbridge Census near Edward Campbell, he must
have been living on someone else's land. I even checked the Patterson
records for some mention of Christian/Christine with no luck. Likewise, for
birth records.
The best thing about the trip was I found another cousin!!!! A lady came in
and was having a little trouble getting started and finding the oldest
records, etc.; so she asked me if I could point her in the right directions
for the oldest deeds. We talked for a moment and she learned I was
researching Campbells. I then discovered her
family was from the Montebello area and she had been talking with Lyle
Campbell. Some of her earlier research was destroyed and she was trying to
retrace her steps. I, of course, told her about our site and invited her to
join the group.
Rosemary, look out for a message from Patricia Campbell Dixon Parks.

You bumped into another cousin...at the Court House??
WONDERFUL! Those are moments that I greatly treasure.*S*
How often do you go to the Court House?? Or was this on
a scheduled trip from a distance away?
Thank you for your post...it's been of great assistance,
Lisa Grimes
