I have an old family story. I hope someone can help shed some light.
My great grandfather, George Milton was born in Deskford, Banffshire in
1835, died in 1927 in Kansas, USA.
He told his children that Milton was not the original family name, that they
had to change it when they got on the wrong side of some conflict. There
are notes left by his daughters saying that it may have been MacDuff. One
of his son's middle name was Campbell. The family was Church of Scotland.
I've wondered if the conflict could had some connection to the events at
Culloden - or earlier?
Does anyone else have a similar story? I'm looking for clues.
