A bit about the State of Virginia;
1718 there was New Kent County, in 1720 Hanover County was forme d from
New Kent, in 1742 <OOPPS> Louisa County from Hanover, Co. in 1744
Albemarle County was formed from Part of Louisa & Goochland County, In
1761 Amherst & Buckingham Counties were formed from Albemarle, Co. then
in
1807/8 Nelson County was formed from Amherst County, Then in 1865 The
records of New Kent & Hanover were Destroyed, Our Ole George
Campbell,s
Parents, very likely, <there has not been any thing to prove other
wise>located
in the Part of Hanover County That Became, Louisa, Albemarle, Amherst &
todays Nelson County. The story abt My 4th Great Grand Pa, Johyn Campbell
being Born in Albemarle, Co in 1750, <??> & relocating to amherst County
at an
early age, as Amherst County was formed in 17 61 that would have Mae John
Campbell 11 years old, when Amherst County was Formed, There My Cousins
Is
a Very good Misconception
Fits the Galiath TALES.
Now Here is another way that the Local story can be a Reason for not
finding a Record of what has come down as Family stories:
It has always & still req uired that the Marriage Liscence be Bought in
the Jurrisdiction of the Bride, BUT, in olden times there was a
shortedge
Of Preachers, For those Younge ns who might have started the Family
before,
the Preacher there was Common Law Marriage or Unions until the Circuit
Rider Came Through.
Now say that the Circuit Ride r came into Amherst County From the East,
& performed some Marriages by the time that he Got to Amherst C H. he
could record those Marriages in Amherst C. H. No problem, BUT he Travels
up to
Sandiges, an old Post office, in the Temprence Dist, Then on to The Forkd
Of Buffalo, More Marriages, then to Pedlar, Then to Pleasant View, then
To
Elon, to Madison Heights all along the way marrying The Locals with
Marriage
Liscencs
Properly in the Brides County, BUT here is where the Local Folks Tale
is Correct & the Like of A recorded Marriage in Amherst County, Is no
Proof of Anything, because there was NO law requireing those Marriages to
be recorded in Amherst County so the Circuit Rider Recorded the Marriage
Records in the Next County Seat that he Came to, Which was very Likely
Campbell County, Va
So my Idea would be To check an Adjoining County Records before Marking
the Family record of Ole Grt Gran DAD, Up as a FAKE,
D, N, A, with out a doubt one of the Most correct method of Proving a
Family Connection BUT just like Doting I's & crossing T;s there has to
be an
up right, with D. N. A. there must be another Member of the Same Family
to
get a Match.
I believe that Our ole George Campbell's Father was Named <GEORGE>, But
the supposed George & Margaret, as they are recorded, can not be the
Parents
of Our ole George, Check the Time of their Children's Birth Days, to
close
togeather.
I have traced George & Marget ampbell's Children through West Va. to KY,
to Scotland Co. Mo to a female Descendant Near Tampa FLA.
But no <D. N. A. > yet, Further, Two of The Kids of George & Margaret's
Descendants went from West Va to KY. to Mo, Where are You, Would be great
to
have you youngens thae CUZ VIC'S <D> N> A> > test CUZ A T JUST
Asking
&
Wondering <atpowelljr(a)aol.com>
