Larry,
There are no living males Campbell descendants from my line (I'm descended thru my
Grandmother, the daughter of Herman Benford CAMPBELL-his only child). I don't know of
any other relatives of my Grandfather (I do know he had 2 brothers, but they've both
passed on years ago). I don't believe I'm a candidate for testing thru this
line.
I'm very interested in the evidence you have showing Francis Lee in Loudon CO. in
1757. Everything I have shows Francis Lee was born between 1758-1760; which means what I
have is either wrong OR this Francis Lee may be the ancestor of Lawrence, my Francis
Lee's father (in keeping with Scottish tradition of naming the males after the
grandparents).
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Rob

Rob, Is there anyone to do a DNA test?? Francis Lee was up in Loudoun
County with Aeneas Campbell in 1757. Aeneas was styled as from St Mary's
in some documents. We don't know where Aeneas came from but it sure is
nice to find others looking also.

Hello everyone,
I'm looking for some information on a line of Campbells that lived in Virginia for a
spell.
Lawrence Campbell B. Abt. 1735 (uncertain if born in Virginia, although some resources
indicate he was born in Scotland and immigrated there). Supposedly he was baptized in the
Parish of St. Mary's, but again, I have no proof of this. He is listed as a Patriot
with the Sons (& Daughters) of the American Revolution, as providing support (a
document from a Colonel James Higgenbotham shows payment to Lawrence for his portion of
beef & clothing provided to the Virginia Militia). A separate letter from his great
grandson, the reverend Campbell Symonds, indicated that in conversations with his
grandfather (Captain Francis Lee Campbell, the son of Lawrence) he mentioned that Lawrence
in fact held the rank of Major in the Virginia Militia. Although this may be regarded as
hearsay, there is no evidence to support Lawrence's commission, nor service. Lawrence
married a Henrietta Amerilla Catlet, and had several children, among them Francis Lee
CAMPBELL. Lawrence passed away and is su!
pp!
osedly buried in Locust Mountain/Hill?
Trying to confirm Lawrence's birth date & place, his military service and his
resting place. There is a Locust Hill in Southwestern Virginia, but he lived most of his
life in the Tidewater areas of Virginia.
Francis Lee CAMPBELL, b 1758 or 1760 (again, uncertain if he was born in Virginia or
Scotland) served as a Captain in the Virginia Militia. He was married to Ann (Nancy)
Quarles BARNETT. They lived in Amherst and Augusta Counties in Virginia. He died and is
buried in Cottage Hill in Virginia. Among their children was a son Alexander Augustus
CAMPBELL, my descendant.
Trying to confirm any information on his Militia unit, if there was any service for the
Continental Army and when/where he was born (Scotland or Virginia).
Alexander Augustus CAMPBELL was born in 1789 in Virginia. He studied medicine in
Philadelphia and became a doctor. During his studies, he became deathly ill with some
fever that almost took his life. After returning home, he became a minister while still
practicing medicine. I saw a few notes which mention that he served in the War of 1812,
but no supporting documentation with information on his unit or type of service. He
married a Sarah BOYCE and had a Son named Erasmus Sydenham Campbell.
Trying to verify his service in the War of 1812 or information about his study in
Philadelphia.
Skipping a generation, one of Erasmus's sons with his second wife Eliza Jane Mariner,
is a George Francis CAMPBELL, born March 26, 1849. George was a farmer who married Syria
TURNER. He was a farmer for most of his life and died from TB in June 16, 1916. He had a
son named Sydney Thornton Campbell.
Trying to verify any information on his life, including any service during the Civil
War.
Sydney Thornton CAMPBELL was born in June 1882. He married as Mauddie Emeline MCKINNEY in
1884. He registered for the draft in WWI, but to my knowledge never served. He worked as a
Menglewood Box Company as a teamster for a while, before settling as a farmer. He died in
Gibson CO., TN in 1951. He and Mauddie had a son, my G-Grandfather, Herman Benford
CAMPBELL.
I'm hoping that someone out there knew of Thornton (as he liked to be called) or his
family. I have pictures of his father and grandfather, but nothing of him.
Herman Benford CAMPBELL was born in GIBSON CO., TN. In 1908. He was a farmer all his
life, married to Annie Lee RAMSEY in 1927. Annie Lee died giving birth to their only
daughter. Herman remarried Bertie Lowrance in 1931 until his death in 1979.
Since Herman died relatively recently, perhaps anyone on the list knew him? I was a kid
when he passed, so don't remember much about him.
I'd love to correspond with anyone with information on this line.
