Michael: there is no evidence, and this has been proven as inaccurate that Samuel Campbell
had any connection Campbell of Wester Kames in both the positive and the negative.? In the
positive, Duncan Beaton, Scottish Contributing Editor to the Journal of the Clan Campbell
Society (NA) had an article in the Spring 2009 issue which traces this Samuel's father
to a Robert Campbell who was banished from Scotland as a result of Monmouth's
Rebellion.? Robert?had protested his innocence to no avail.? Robert's father was an
Archibald Campbell living in Kildalvin, a long abandoned place across the Ruel from
Conchra in Cowal, Argyll.? In the negative, DNA test results of Auchinbreck Campbells have
been compared with those of Cherry Valley descendants, and the results were clearly in the
negative, see my piece in Summer 2008 issue of same magazine, "An Auchinbreck
Connection?"? The reason for the assumption had been that this Samuel is the same
Samuel, son of James Campbell who settled !
at Cherry Valley, N.Y., in 1741.? But, as mentioned here, that is now disproven.? Hope
this steers things for you.? Regards, Paul Campbell, Editor, Journal of the Clan Campbell
Society (NA).

Hello: I would like to post the following question about my ancestor
Samuel Campbell, born 1695 in (I believe) Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland, married
Mary Hunter in Boston MA Dec. 9, 1731; died Middletown, NY 1780. Many
Campbell descendants claim that Samuel was the son of Lt. William Campbell,
born
Wester Kames, Bute, Scotland, in 1663, son of William Campbell and
Margaret McLean. I would like to know what the evidence for this is. Thank
you,
Michael Haines
