Marge,
Yes it would. What I was saying is that there are two distinct groups of
Campbells in Ireland: one is of Scottish descent (from Clan Campbell in
Scotland) and the other of purely Irish descent (Clan Cathmhoal in Ireland).
These two groups of Campbells have different DNA and are not related by
blood.
There are spelling variations for Campbell, so I assume that Cammel is one
of them. Indeed the "p" was not originally in the name "Campbell".
It was
inserted to form the name into an aristocratic name of Latin origin, e.g.
"de Campo Bello" which is Latin for "from the beautiful field". The
consensus now is that Campbell is a Celtic name.

George, your message states that the English kings moved Protestant SCOTS
into Ireland to supress the Catholic Irish..
Wouldn't this still make these Irish emmigrant's of Scots descent? Just
wondering..LOL..
I am interested because Ellis Campbell b 1804 in VA, spelled his name in
land records (his neighbor did) as Ellis Cammel. Interesting.

Also I'd like to recommend that every male Campbell on this list join the
Campbell DNA project, but be sure to take at least the 25-marker test. I
did and the results are extremely interesting. It turns out that I most
likely belong to the so-called Irish Campbells, who descended from the
Irish
Clan Cathmhoal and are not related to the Scottish Clan Campbell. When
during the 16th and 17th centuries the English kings moved protestant
Scots
into Ireland to suppress the catholic Irish, the Clan Cathmhoal
(pronounced
"Cammel" similar to Campbell) assumed the spelling Campbell. So if your
ancestors emigrated from Ireland, it's very possible that they were not of
Scottish descent.
