Happy New Year cousins!
I'm still at a complete dead end looking for my Campbells. Most of the 10
first US generation kids were born in Wisconsin in the 1850's-1870's, but
poking through the vital records online turns up no matches. Scrolling
through all the names made me realize how totally Catholic my Campbells
were, and the dad Thomas and his brothers & mom that came here were born in
Ireland. Thomas met & married his wife in Peebles Scotland, and her mom was
born in Ireland as well.
Does this point to my Campbells being the native Irish kind, that changed
their name spelling to Campbell after the Scots were brought in by the
English? Or were there Ulster-Scots that were Catholic?
