Dear Richard,
I am open to all possibilities as to who JOHN WILLIAM and LAVINA
CAMPBELL's families are and where in Alabama they lived. I just don't
know any place names for them. Your information is the first that even
comes close to identifying them.
An older cousin told me that JOHN WILLIAM & LAVINA had a family of 16
sons and no daughters. I only have the names or initials of the first
10 sons. For a long time I assumed that my gr-grandfather, HENRY KING
CAMPBELL, was born in Tennessee; that's what the 1880 U.S. census led me
to believe but I now think I found him and his family in the 1870 U.S.
census for Corsicana, Navarro Co, TX, and in that census he and his wife
are both recorded as born in AL. I see Madison and Jackson counties in
AL are just over the line from Tennessee. Maybe that's also a good
clue. The names of JOHN WILLIAM & LAVINA CAMPBELL's sons were:
[1] Anderson CAMPBELL, b. 22 Oct 1829
[2] W.K. CAMPBELL, b. 28 Sep 1830
[3] Jethero CAMPBELL, b. 13 Feb 1834
[4] J.R. CAMPBELL, b.30 Jun 1836
[5] Samuel CAMPBELL, b. 2 Dec 1837
[6] J.M. CAMPBELL, b. 12 Jan 1841
[7] Ben F. CAMPBELL, b. 31 Mar 1843
[8] Henry King CAMPBELL, b. 14 Nov 1846 (my gr-grandfathr)
[9] Jasper N. CAMPBELL, b. 11 Nov 1850
[10] Felix P. CAMPBELL, b.????
I understand that my gr-gr-grandfather, JOHN WILLIAM, went by the
nickname of "BILL" CAMPBELL.
With this many names to work with, surely I can turn up at least one
relative on this CAMPBELL-L list! Thanks for your response, Richard!
