I would bet on it Bill. People today have a tough time spelling the name
"Campbell"--here in TN it is not unusual for them to spell Campbell as
"Cambel, Cambal, Cambell. . ." so it is an easy stretch to believe in older
times, with fewer written references that entire family names could have been
changed with a misspelling. I would certainly follow the other spellings in
search of ancestors until I was satisfied that I was on the wrong track.
