Lee Ann sent a message to this list last April... I think
she may be related to the same Campbell line I have.
My line is
Ellis Campbell b 1804 in VA; d 1881 in Iron Coutny MO.
Married Elizabeth YOUNG (Cobb given by son on death cert of
sister). One of Ellis & Elizabeths sons broke his hip while
working for Mine LaMotte (cutting timber), our family book
says he broke his pelvis.. also show that this sons (James
Mehlander Campbell b 1836 in AL) first wife Nancy Welborn
died in 1874 & he married for second time to Sarah Jane
Sutton (said to be part Cherokee or Blackfoot).
James M had a brother named Wiley (Wesley, Will) Campbell.
I have been in contact with another researcher (Donna Stock)
whos ancester was Landa Wiley Campbell. I have Donna's
family info as well as a couple of other MO Campbell
researchers. Trying to locate the connection between these
lines... to many things that point to a family connection...
I believe that the family chose opposite sides during the
Civil War.
Any with info on Campbells in MO who can help or add to the
heap... would love to share with you.
You can view my Campbells (including a picture of Ellis b
1804) on my webpages at:

Thanks for any ideas anyone can offer.

Subject: Query MO. Campbells
Glenn,
WILEY CAMPBELL was my great grandfather. I have been unable
to find
him in Indiana, although I, too, was told he was born in
Vincennes on
the Wabash River. I am told that WILEY had brothers who
fought on
opposite sides in the Civil War. He worked building the
Iron Mountain
Railroad at Granden, Mo., and was a stone mason during the construction
of Southeast Missouri State University. A large stone fell
on him and
crushed his pelvis. I believe WILEY's wife was Sarah Elizabeth
Williams. I am told she was part Indian and still spoke the
language.
She did die in her 30's, and the eldest son, Andy (Milton
Anderson) ran
away from home when his father remarried. He lived with
Uncle Billy
Henson (no relation, I am told) and Henson and his wife
Lizzie (not
WILEY'S daughter) brought up all of WILEY and Sarah's children.
I don't believe LIZZIE CAMPBELL married Bill Henson. I
understand she
married a man named BROWN and they opened gypsum mines near
Joplin, Mo.
They had seven sons. Although the name GRANT CAMPBELL
appears in the
census records, that son was actually called LEE. Either
there was some
disagreement over the Civil War or they were hedging their bets.
WILEY seems to be a dead end. I can't find any trace of him
before
1880. I would appreciate any information at all about his
parents or
SARAH'S.
