Louden is part of the Campbell clan and is one of the four recognized septs
of Campbell. I've been and research my line at Loudoun Castle, Louden
Kirk, and other places in Ayrshire.
And Loudon is a recognized variant of the name. In fact, my uncle uses the
name Loudon.

According to a wee book I have, Loudoun (sic) is connected with
Campbell of Loudoun (presumably Loudoun in Ayrshire). But I am sure
other subscribers know more about this than I do.
The purpose of this message is to alert you to the existence of the
name Louden (or Lowden or Lothian) which I believe is of a different
derivation. As far as I know, this name is a geographical name derived
from the Lothian area of Scotland. I had many a headache with my
genealogy until I discovered that the names Louden and Lothian were
interchangeable.
