I'm starting a project of sorting the the Yates County, NY CAMPBELL
families in hunt for my g-g-grandmother's parents. She was Margaret
CAMPBELL, b. abt 1814, m. James Knox WARING. Lived near Penn Yan,
probably Milo per family records. Census records show Tompkins county
in 1850 and Schuyler county in 1855. Moved to Iowa before 1860 and died
there.
Any one have anything on Yates county, NY families?

Kelly: Sorry can't provide any direct help on your families but
wanted to ask if you were aware of the impact in this area and time
frame of the religious group known as the Jemimakins, who were
the followers of Jemima Wilkinson [who claimed among other things,
at least privately, that she was the returning Christ]. See the
book "Pioneer Prophetess" by Herbert A Wisbey, Jr. pub Cornell
Univ. Press c1964. Copies can be found in libraries and on internet.
Did not locate the names Waring or Campbell in her death book, but
perhaps no one of that name "left time." My wife has been looking
for a complete listing of her church membership but has not uncovered
one to date beyond the death book. There is a museum in Yates Co.
devoted to her and her sect. If you know more about this let us
know. Thanks.
