Vernon Campbell, age 93, died Sunday, April 18, at 6:15 a.m. at Middletown
Regional Hospital. He was born in Vinton County, Ohio February 2, 1906,
the son of Ernest Delano Campbell and Sarah Daisy (Payne) Campbell. On
July 6, 1929, he married Esther Irene Engle, who preceded him in death in
1982, as well as his only child, Reta Kley, who entered Heaven in 1994,
after a ten year struggle with early onset Alzheimer's disease. Robert had
five siblings who preceded him in death, Hobart Campbell, Harry Ernest
Campbell, Enid Campbell, Roscoe Campbell and Rodney Campbell.
Survivors include sister, Faye Campbell, who at age 97 enjoys independent
living facilities at Otterbein Retirement Home; three grandchildren, Kathy
Wagonfield and husband, Patrick of Hamilton, Brenda Kley Bradley of
Hamilton, and Bill Kley and wife, Desiree of Michigan; seven great
grandchildren and on great-great grandchild.
Robert retired from Delco Products, in Dayton, Ohiom, a subsidiary of
General Motors, after 40 years of dedicated service.
Robert lived by himself, only blocks from his grandchildren, until May,
1998, when he was involved in an accident. He had excellent care at
Berkeley Square for three months, until he was moved to Otterbein Home to
be close to his sister. He lived his last six months at Otterbein, again
receiving loving care. His entire life was led with pure dignity, he was
the epitome of hard work and total dedication to his entire exteneded
family. When asked several years ago how he would like to be remembered,
he commented that he would like to be thought of as a hard worker and
honest person. These traits were truly consistent throughout Robert's
life, as well as many other exceptional characteristics.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 21, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at
Faith Lutheran Church in Oxford, Ohio, followed by the funeral service at
2:00 p.m. Burial will be at David's Cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. Zettler
Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Avenue, Hamilton, is overseeing all
arrangements. The family requests that donations be made in memory of
Robert and his only child, Reta Kley, to either: The Alzheimer's

Luther, 3901 Lake Rd., Conneaut, Ohio 44030.
