You seem surprised to find Campbells in Ireland. Campbell happens to be
one of the more common surnames in Ireland. Top 30 or so in all of
Ireland, probably top ten in Ulster. Not all are of Scottish ancestry,
as a good portion descend from native Irish stock.

Subject: Campbells in Ireland
I have finally located my g-g grandfather, Samuel Campbell. Samuel was =
married to Ann and they were the parents of my great grandfather, Andrew =
Campbell and a number of other children. They lived in Jo Daviess =
County, Irish Hollow Precinct, Illinois, near Galena. We had always =
thought Campbells were from Scotland. In the census records of 1850, it =
shows Samuel at 34 years old and born in Ireland. In some follow-up =
research we have done, have found that there were some Scots in northern =
Ireland, in Ulster. We are looking for any additional information about =
the Campbells in Ireland. Also information about the Irish-born =
Campbells in Jo Daviess County. It would be fun to be able to trace my =
ancesters back to Ireland. Thank you. Paul Campbell and Cathie Bishop, =
Sioux City, Iowa.
