I have a copy of a family history that is titled "The Campbell's are Here"
written by Mary Ellen Campbell Tesreau abt 1970. I started out to document
the entries as a way to fill in time until my own family info revealed
itself... what I have found are numerous errors in information. Most are
due to the fact that when Mary started the book, there was little info
available w/out going a great distance to find the actual documents, or
copies of... The copies were usually handwritten or typed copies.. and of
course these were subject to misinterpetation by the extractors. Also,
much of the info was based on family recolections.. Mostly those of James
Mhelander listed above, who was Mary's gfather.
I am tring to locate any others who may be related to this line.. as I
would like to find answers to some questions that may help us all in
documenting this line:
a] I find an Andrew living near a Welborn & another Campbell in 1860.
James M was m to Nancy Ann Welborn. The Campbell living near Andrew looks
like he could be related also.. What I don't understand is why Ellis or
James never mentioned the existance of these other men... since they lived
so near to James and his father, Ellis. I do find that there is a listing
of the Campbell on the 1860 census near Andrew as being a slaveholder..
Ellis & James M were not... This is only thing that I can think of that
would cause this family to disown the two oldest sons, and what looks to be
a brother of Ellis...
I found so many names on the 1850-1860 census for Shannon & Iron
Counties, that I made copies of the films.. I did leave out some pages,
which I am planning to copy also.. Just to have for reference. I have
printed information also.. but in some instances the printed don't always
jive with the filmed documents. As in 1850, The name is Slusher, and
census has Flusher, etc.
I find new info every week, but nothing to relate Ellis b 1804 with parents.
We have been told that Ellis may have been descendant of Elias
(Elijah, Elisha, etc) Campbell & Clhoe Swindler... either son or gson (files
not in front of me). I can't find any connection...
Any info, help to proove/ disproove the above connection appreciated.
