Jennifer asks about the best place to find out about kith and kin in
Scotland. The only place of consequence to do this is in New Register House
which is at the west end of Princes Street, Edinburgh. There, one can use a
computer to locate names and the, on sight, there and there, look at either
a micro-film or micro-fiche of the original. The records contain the old
parish records of prior to 1855 and the records resulting from compulsory
registration of births, deaths and marriages from 1855 on. They make a
charge of about 16 pounds a day but it is so worth it.
Jennifer, if you need somewhere to stay, I can recommend a good b & b just
round the corner - they charge about 25 pounds for bed and breakfast.
Other members of the meeting will be able to tell you more about Campbell
resources in Argyll and elsewhere.
And how hostile are the natives?
If you were daft enough to mention the recent annihilation of Scotland by
the English rugby team this year, things might be a wee bit tense. However,
drink to a Scottish victory next year and good will and Uisge Beatha
(whiskey) will flow. Slainte
