Rob;
What Alexander Brown is telling everyone is: that Lawrence Campbell was not in the French
and Indian Wars nor in the Revolutionary War, but that he either came to ole Albemarle
County (the area of Amherst and Nelson counties) between 1761 and 1776 or became of age
during this period of time. We all know that Lawrence came toe ole Albemarle between 1761
and 1776. Regards BH

Please excuse me cousin Bucky, I don't quite follow. Please clarify. Specifically,
what is Mr. Brown referring to about Lawrence when he lists.
CAMPBELL, Lawrence a. 30
CAMPBELL, Lawrence b. au
I can't decipher from the key below exactly what that means??

Rob;
The web site post you made tells you the history of Lawrence Campbell as documented by
Alexander Brown. Read the keys that Brown provides.
I have been to the Swem library many times and copied everything that Alexander Brown
placed there. There is not a specific file there on Lawrence Campbell). Browns life was
spent mainly in developing the Cabell family genealogy. He did his work at the UVa and
graduated from the Law School there many years ago. You can pull up and read his Cabell
history from Google books. Its titled": The Cabells and their Kin. Look in the
index as there may be something in the Cabell book on Lawrence. Regards BH
The List contains the following numbers: (This is the way Brown wrote his key)
1. Of those who had interests in Old Albemarle prior to 1761, nearly 2000 and is nearly
complete a. a.
2. Of those who came to Old Amherst or became of age between 1761 and 1776, nearly 700 and
is nearly complete(prior to 1761 included in #1)b.b.
3. Of those who served in the French and Indian War from Albemarle (Amherst), about 150,
incomplete a..st. a..sf.
From Bedford, about 300, incomplete c. st. c. sf..
4. Of those
who served in the Revolutionary War from Old Amherst, About 800 incomplete b. sr. b. sr.
5. Autographs prior to 1800, about 550 au. au.
Total number of names in the list - 3822
Note: Names are entered just as A. Brown has on his list. Some of his notations are
unclear.
Most can be deciphered from the key above

Hi Cousins,
Does anybody live near the Swem Library, located at the College of William & Mary in
Williamsburg, VA? Supposedly there is a collection called the Alex Brown Papers which make
mention of the following Campbell Ancestors in reference material regarding their
appearance in Amherst (where my Lawrence lived). Information about the paper s can be
found at
