Good evening to all,
I noticed earlier, in yesterday's digest of posts for Edgefield Co., SC,
that the
Family Finder program was being discussed...and I thought that I would take
a moment to
post...with a question along with some basic information to help find the
answers.
I know that laterals of my MOSS and MIMMS were in Edgefield Co. SC, and can
prove them
to be siblings of my Nathaniel MOSS (b. 1752, Goochland Co. VA) who decided
to move on
across the Savannah River when the Indian lands were opened up to create
Wilkes Co., GA.
To date it seems Nathaniel did not purchase land in SC, but waited for
Wilkes Co., GA.
Along with Nathaniel & Joanna (Johnson) MOSS, another section of my family
also lived
in the part of early Wilkes Co. GA...that would later become Oglethorpe Co.
GA in 1793:
Charles CAMPBELL, wife Elizabeth (Belinden or Bellenden) and the incomplete
list of CH:
Levi (Leni, Levy) CAMPBELL, b. 1755-1762; d. 1817 LA
m. 1789 GA, Sarah WATKINS (b. 1763, Johston Co., NC)
Charles CAMPBELL, b. 1755-1762; d. ??
m. unknown
Lorany (Laurany, Laurane) CAMPBELL, b. 1770; d. aft. 1840 MS-AL
Territory
m. 1st GA, Benjamin WATKINS (older brother of Sarah WATKINS)
m. 2nd GA, Sherwood DAVIS (brother of Aaron DAVIS)
Possibly also:
Keziah (Kissiah) CAMPBELL, b. c. 1773-1776; d. c. 1807 GA
1st wife of Moses WATKINS (brother of Benjamin & Sarah
WATKINS)
By 1800, Charles "Snr" was widowed and he then re-married to another elderly
widow,
Mrs. Richard (Milly HORN) Bailey in Oglethorpe Co., GA. Her origin was
Johnston Co., NC.
By 1809, my line was no longer in Oglethorpe Co., GA, but they were over in
the area of
Morgan Co., GA...or at least until the push to migrate to LA before the 1810
Census Taker
could count them residing there in GA. So...they left GA before June 1810.
I have noticed in my research that there were quite a number of CAMPBELL's
in the area of
Edgefield Co. (old 96)...and I am wondering if any of that early group has
had a descendant
who has DNA'd, or is willing to join the CAMPBELL DNA Project with Family
Tree DNA.
My CAMPBELL line,
DNA Kit # 72715
Charles CAMPBELL --c.1732-1740--, b. Scotland or VA (tradition: VA); d. bfr
1817
67 point DNA result:
13-24-14-10-11-14-12-12-12-13-13-30....17-9-10-11-11-25-15-19-30-15-15-17-17
- skip 3
-11-12-19-24-17-15-18-17-37-38-12-12-12-9-15-16-8-10-10-8-10-10-12-22-23-16-
10-12-12-15-8-12-22-20-13-12-11-13-11-11-12-12
There's a strong match with a James CAMPBELL of Staunton VA, circa same time
frame,
but I don't have that kit# handy, nor does the descendant have information
to assist.
There's an almost perfect match with # 87836 whose ancestor was Alexander
CAMPBELL
c. 1769 (Ireland or Scotland-Illinois).
There are 2 CAMPBELL descendants of 43974 & N47027,James CAMPBELL c. 1769
Skye, Scotland.
These 2 are still residing in Scotland.
With 87836, Alexander, the match is 67-66, and this line did come to
America.
Alexander would be a contemporary to my Levi, and with a 67 vs. 66 point
difference
...could be a sibling, or 1st cousin.
With 43974, James, the match is 37-35, and this line is still in Scotland.
Both lines are so very close, and from what I can see...these are definitely
kin,
but at this time we do not have enough information to identify the exact
connection.
I am posting...hoping that there is someone on the list, with Edgefield Co.
history,
or VA CAMPBELL history, that might be able to help to connect the CAMPBELL
dots..to the
other CAMPBELL's that were in VA 1700-1800, or Edgefield Co. from abt 1760
to 1850.
For the record, the MOSS line has been DNA'd, and if my memory serves so has
the MIMMS.
Both lines are included in the projects with Family Tree DNA.
Thanks everyone,
Lisa

-at the moment, I am keeping my fingers croxxed for another Oglethorpe Co.,
GA CAMPBELL
who has agreed to participate in the CAMPBELL DNA Project. No idea if he's
kin. *S*
