Rob;
I agree that I can not document Lawrence was born in Caroline county and you
can not prove that he was born in Scotland........ both are speculations..
even if the Rev. Symonds stated he was.......The Rev. has no better
documentation than you or I. So...there is no answer as to the origin of one
each Lawrence Campbell.
I am spending tomorrow and Friday (most of each day) in the Richmond state
library. Lawrence Campbell is not an interest of mine other than to
determine if he was related to my line of George Campbell (1720ca-1791) of
Nelson county. Although my plate overflows now if time permits I will see
what documentation may be available in Caroline that may shed some light on
this Lawrence Campbell family including what Parish Records they may have.
I note that their county records; minutes, order books, deeds etc go back to
1728....which is sufficient history to include this Campbell family - if one
exist. Have a good day. Regards BH

Cousin Bucky, thank you so much. But as we discussed with Cousin
Diarmid
last year, the papers located in the LVA incorrectly cited that Lawrence
was a descendant of the James who was related to the Duke of Argyl. Both
Diarmid and Ruby Campbell of CCSNA confirmed that this information was
incorrect. My point being nonetheless in response to your email to Robert
Goodwin, in which you stated that Lawrence was born in Caroline
county...is we simply don't know for sure, and I wouldn't want any new
researchers to the line hold this as the "Gospel truth", since it's purely
speculation.
Of course I will send you a copy of the transcribed deed my friend, along
with ANY other information I may dig up. Thank you also for email for
Mike, but that email is not valid. If anybody else knows how to contact
him, I'd appreciate it.
Rob

Rob;
True, but I don't know of any document that proves or even suggest he was
born in Scotland either!!
By going through and analyzing the Lawrence Campbell package of papers at
the LVA, (no doubt put there by the Symonds family of Lynchburg), one will
find a document that suggest that Lawrence may descend from a James
Campbell
of Caroline County who was a son of the Duke of Argyle of Scotland. That
is as close of a
record as I know of.
I was just researching Orange County court records, but I never found this
1756 deed.
Naturally I could have overlooked the deed you reference. I would like to
have a copy of that deed
so that my next trip I can have deed in hand when searching. Was the St
Mary's Parish
not from Caroline county?
I don't recall ever hearing about Mike Gentry. But you may have a lead on
something
that would be a great find. Keep after and also have a good day. Regards
