Oh absolutely. We could be relatives! Those Campbells were an incestuous bunch. I have two
branches. One from the Kilmelfort area, and one from Luing, although they say that the
oldest male ancestor that I have found is from Kilbrandon. He was John Campbell. The other
thing that I found from the MIs is that they descend from the Inverliver Campbells. When I
switch my laptop on I will send you a graphic of all the branches.
The only reason I stay on the Campbell List is because I am looking for Andrew Campbell m
Elizabeth Malcolm. They definitely had one son Harold who was born in April 1900. I find
them in that census living in Philadelphia, but after that nothing. Andrew was my
grandfather's brother, and he is the only one we seem to have lost! My grandfather
came to South Africa, and the other two brothers went to Canada, and I have connected with
all their families. I haven't done the DNA bit as it would be prohibitively expensive
from here. I must get one of the relatives in The USA to do it!
I am on the hunt now for John's parents, John and Janet Campbell. Janet's maiden
name was also Campbell!! I think I now need to try and save my pennies and get to
Scotland!!
I will let you know what I turn up
Best wishes

Howdy Liz,
Thank you for your response re Isle of Seil. I am working in desperation
here. My oldest known Campbell ancestor was born in Pennsylvania in 1793.
I have known that for a long time. His parents were immigrants, but I have
no idea who they were. With little hope, I submitted a DNA sample. All I
know for sure from that is that I am a Campbell with roots in Argyll. My
closest match has traced his line back to a Colin Campbell. Much of the
information he sent me about Colin and what is on the web is wrong. I have
spent a lot of hours trying to get Colin straight.
Since we are a close DNA match, we are related -- somewhere back along the
line. Colin is not my ancestor; however presumably his brother, cousin,
father, uncle, etc. is. If I can find Colin's parents, I may get a lead to
my Joseph Harris Campbell. Thin threads, but all I have. I now need to try
to find records of the old Kilbrandon Parish.
If my Campbells were on Seil and yours were on Luing, they probably knew
each other.
Happy Hunting,
Lee

Hi there,
I have Campbells from the Island of Luing which is right next door to Seil.
The parish that covers these Islands is Kilbrandon and Kilchattan.
Where did you get your info from-- the LDS site or Scotlands people. I have
found the LDS site is a good pointer, but there are very often spelling
mistakes that can send you off in a different direction.
I have The Kilchattan Kirkyard -- a local publication that gives all the
MIs
for Luing and some of the surrounding islands. I managed to get it through
the Luing History Society. Maybe there is something similar for Seil.
If you find they have ended up on Luing, let me know and I will have a look
for them in the book. I eventually sorted out my family with the help of
the
MIs
Lots of Luck!!!!
Liz
