It is the middle of the night now for me, and I just received the digest
of all of Saturday's posts.
One post...grabbed my attention.

Why don't you folks start a Facebook page? This isn't social networking.
It's supposed to be a tool for researching ancestry. I'm sure we all have
thousands of cousins. I'm trying to get back to Scotland. This forum
is ridiculous.
------------------
If this post was done out of frustration due to being stuck at one spot in
the
research, I can understand. In fact, I understand this all too well, but
that
does not mean that this forum is the problem.
Most of our research problems are simply due to the fact that not all of our
ancestors could read-write, and most didn't. Nor did they care whether or
not
they left anything in the way of a paper trail for their descendants to
follow
...like Hansel & Gretal's bread crumbs.
There have been many times, when a tidbit of information that was posted,
steered me to clues that allowed me to figure out if my CAMPBELL's
(Scottish)
were or were not a part of a particular group of CAMPBELL's.
Unfortunately, like so many of our fellow researchers, my line of CAMPBELL
...has not allowed me to discover the who-what-when-where of their arrival
on this continent, but that does not mean that this is a "ridiculous forum."
In the past 12-14 years, this list has garnered more distant cousins, who
have
come out of the woodwork to contact me, than I can possibly count. Never
mind
...that none of us has managed to discover who the immigrant (culprit) was
or when.
We only know that our CAMPBELL's are Scottish, and now confirmed via the
YDNA.
The level of willing list members, who have offered research assistance and
often very timely suggestions, has always been high. This is what this
forum
.....is supposed to be used for, and frankly, I would be disappointed if
this
helpful attitude became an endangered species.
As for Facebook. No thanks. I have no intention of abandoning friends,
fellow researchers, and still unknown to me...distant cousins.
So...post where the trail of bread crumbs has run out, and let's see if
someone
on the list can throw a little light on the trail.
I'm hunting for the background of one...Charles CAMPBELL,
b. circa 1730-1740, whether born in Scotland or VA, is still up in
the air.
d. before 1817, either in Wilkes, Oglethorpe, or Morgan Co., GA
or... 1812-1817 in Lafayette Parish, LA
Charles CAMPBELL m. at least twice, but we have only been aware of 2
marriages.
1st, Elizabeth "Betsy" BELINDEN (BELLENDEN, BALANDINE, etc.)
b. reportedly in VA, but we have nothing to prove this.
d. before 1800, possibly in Wilkes (Oglethorpe) Co., GA
2nd, 1800, GA, Mrs. Richard (Milly HORN) Bailey, an elderly widow.
b. Johnston Co., NC
d. before 1817, either in Wilkes, Oglethorpe, or Morgan Co.,
GA
or... 1812-1817 in Lafayette Parish, LA
Children of Charles and Elizabeth (BELINDEN) CAMPBELL were:
Levi (Leni, Levy) CAMPBELL, b. 1755-1760, VA or the Carolina's
d. 22 Jan 1817, Vermilion Parish, LA
m. 1785 GA, Sarah "Sally" WATKINS, b. 1763, Johnston Co., NC
d. 1828, Vermilion Parish, LA
Lorany (Lorane, Laurany) CAMPBELL
m. 1st, GA, Benjamin WATKINS, brother of Sarah WATKINS m. Levi
CAMPBELL
m. 2nd, GA, Sherwood DAVIS, brother of Aaron DAVIS
Possibly also:
Keziah (Kissiah) CAMPBELL, d. about 1807, Oglethorpe Co., GA
m. GA, Moses WATKINS, brother of Benjamin and Sarah WATKINS
There were several CAMPBELL's in the area around Wilkes & Oglethorpe Co's,
and also across the Savannah River over in SC, so these are the families
that I am trying to identify as friends, neighbors, and possibly kinfolk.
Is there anyone on the list...that might have a clue or two for me, that
I can follow up on?
Thanking all in advance,
Lisa
