Dear Lisa,
I don't know where my ancestor, Duncan Campbell, was from, but I have the
following information: Duncan Campbell, b. about 1728 married Christian
Stewart, daughter of John Stewart, deceased. There are two records of
marriage for Duncan and Christian, both on the same day, in Edinbugh, on 2
Sept. 1770, and also in Inverness, on 2 Sept. 1770. Their first child, John
Calvin Campbell was baptised on Sept 1, 1771 in the Parish of Edinburgh.
I send this to you, seeing that Duncan was married in Inverness. I don't
know why it was recorded in both Inverness and Edinburough, unless one place
is where they were actually married, and the other was their home church
where the marriage was recorded. Would being registered in Inverness imply
that he was a Harris Campbell? Does anyone know why this marriage would have
been recorded in two places?
Cornelia
