I have a puzzle about the Moores who are listed as a sept of the
Campbell clan and wonder if anyone can help me with this. According to
an account which appears in a history of the town of Peterborough New
Hampshire, my ancestor John Moore was shot dead "in his garden" at
Glencoe. His two daughters were, according to this account, rescued by a
servant and taken to Northern Ireland. It goes on to say that his wife,
after discovering the body, took shelter in a malt-kiln and gave birth
to a son that night. This family came to America 23 years later. My
question is this. According to the list of septs under the Campbell
clan, Moore was a Campbell sept. It is not listed under the MacDonalds.
I am very puzzled as to why a whole Campbell family was living in
Glencoe. Does anyone know anything about this? I am trying to figure out
if this family was Campbell or MacDonald. Thanks. Ginny R.
