The obit below is from the Daily Advocate, Belleville, St. Clair county,
IL. I have on file a letter from the Belleville News Democrat (which the
Advocate became a part of in later years) giving me permission to post any
item that would be of help to genealogists. Unless stated to be a different
state, all references to cities, villages etc. are in Illinois. I have been
reading the Advocate on microfilm through inter library loan for several
years, having started with 1850. The name of the paper and the paper date
are shown at the end of each article.

John H. Campbell Dies At Home For Aged At 78 Years
John H. Campbell, 78, known to the host who patronized
Mrs.Campbell's boarding house on South High street for a number of years,
died at 5:30 o'clock yesterday evening at St. Vincent's Home For The Aged
of infirmities of age.
Campbell, a retired farmer, for about ten years, or up to 1927,
when his wife, the late Mrs. Annie Campbell died, assisted her in the
conduct of the boarding house on South High street. It was patronized by
men and women of all professions and its reputation was wide spread.
Campbell was a familiar figure on the premises discussing current problems
with the guests and aiding to make them welcome.
Following his wife's death in May, 1927, the eating establishment
was abandoned.
He was born October 2, 1853, at Mascoutah, a son of the late James
and Miranda Campbell, nee Wright. May 12, 1886, he married the late Annie
Kieser.
He is survived by two daughters, Mattie, wife of Walter
Briesacher, of 20 South Thirty-second street, and Mayme, wife of C. J.
Schwaegel, 7400 West Main street; a son, Dolph J. Campbell, 111 Portland
avenue, five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday from the home
of Walter Briesacher, 20 South Thirty-second street. Rev. Emma Stolberg,
reader of the First Divine Science church, officiating. Burial will be in
Green Mount cemetery.
The body was removed from Gundlach's to the Briesacher home at 4
p.m. today.

Sandra - I noted that you were researching a James Campbell with a wife
Miranda Wright, which dates, etc. could coincide - however, does not
mention birthplace of parents or sibling information in this obit. But
thought it might be worth sending to you. Nancy
