Notice different spelling: - Ransford - Ranceford - Ramsford
We assume Ranceford to be correct because Ranceford Campbell signed his
enlistment so.
It appears each way in Muster and Descriptive Rolls and Hospital Muster
Roll spells his name Ranceford Campbell.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your Office of Application
for pension No. 248.690 and to return it forthwith with such information
as is furnished by our office.
Ranceford Campbell a recruit on the 20th day of February, 1864, at Wellsboro,
Pa. in Co., I, 45thRegiment of that Regiment, of Pa. volunteers to serve
three years. He was on the Muster Roll of Co., I, of that Regiment for
the months of Jan., Feb., Mar., & April 1864. He is reported private. Died
in General Hospital Annapolis, MD. of Rubola and pnuemonia, Aptil 11th
1864.

Final statement by surgeon cooroborates the above data relative to death

inches tall, and he enlisted to be a credit to his township, Morris 20th
sub.District 18th congressional District, Penna. 45th Regiment of Pa. Vet.
Volunteers.

I certify on honor, that Ranceford Campbell, a private of 2nd Lt. Dewitt
C. Hoig, Company I, of the 45th Regiment of Veteran Volunteers, of the
State of Pennsylvania, born in Tioga County, Pa., aged 17 years, 5 feet,
8 inches tall; fair complextion, grey eyes, dark hair, and by occupation
a farmer. Enrolled Febuary 20th 1864 by Captain Crofton for three years;
and served honestly and faithfully with his Co. inthe U.S. Service until
death. He died at U.S. Hospital at Annopolis, Md. April 11, 1864 of Rubeola
and Pneumonia, admitted to Hospital April 4th, 1864.

Dear Madame
I find that it falls to my lot to send you the sad news of your sons death.
this is sad news to send to any Mother, and I would gladly send any other
word than this, he came here on the 6th was very sick from time he came
here. He had the measles and they struck in on him. We did all we could
for him, but it was no use he was out of his head all the time after he
came here he died this morning 4 o'clock will be buried tommorow at two
o'clock there will be a funeral sermon Preached.
