Rachel Campbell, widow of Robert Campbell, who was a pensioner under the
Act of March 18, 1818 and who died 20th July 1827 of Lucoming County, Pennsylvania.
Robert Campbell was a Private in the Company commanded by Captain Wilson
of the Regiment commanded by Col. Hannan in the Pennsylvania Line for two
years.
Rachel Campbel subscribed on the Roll of Pennsylvania rate of $80.00 per
annum to commence on the 4th day of March 1836. Certificate of pension
issued the 7th day of March 1839

Declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the Act of Congress of 7th
July 1838 entitled " An act granting half pay & pension to certain
widows."-
Lycoming County, Pennsylvania
On this nineteenth day of January AD one thousand eight hundred and thirty
nine personally appeared before the subscriber one of the Associate Judges
of the Court of Common Pleas in and for said County of Lycoming, the same
being a court of record - Rachel Campbell, aged seventy four years being
a resident of Brown Township, Lycoming County,first duly sworn according
to the law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to
obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress passed
7th July 1838 - entitled " An Act granting half pay and pensions to certain
widows" that she is the widow of Robert Campbell who was a private in the
Army of the Revolution, and whose name is inscribed on the pension list
roll of the Pennsylvania Agency at the rate of eight dollars per month
to commence on the 6th day of April 1818 as will appear by the certificate
of John C Calhoun Secretary of War dated 8th October 1818 and under seal
of the War Department and continued on the pension roll as appears by an
official letter of I.L. Edwards dated March 16th 1821 no. 3521.
That she, Rachel Campbell, has no further evidence of the services of the
said Robert Campbell, but what was exhibited to the war department by the
said Robert Campbell at the time his name was placed upon the Pension list
roll.- She further declares that she was married to the said Robert Campbell
on the eighteenth day of March one thousand seven hundred and eighty four
- that her husband the aforesaid Robert Campbell died on the twentieth
day of July AD 1827 that she was not married to him prior to his leaving
the service but the marriage took place previous to the first day of January
seventeen hundred and ninety four at the above time stated, and she further
declares that she could not procure any record of her marriage as aforesaid
in consequence of the death of officer who married them bieng dead, and
having been deceased many years since, and no records of marriage by him
would be found to her knowledge - but she declared that she was married
on the day and year above mentioned to the said Robert Campbell, in as
she believes a legal and prior manner by Robert Fleming, Esqr. and that
she still remains his widow not having been married to any other person
since his death, that she lives more than thirty six miles from Williamsport
the seat of Justice in Lycoming County and is unable by reason of bodily
informity to appear in open Court of said county.-

Lycoming County
Personally appeared before me the subscriber Asher Davidson one of the
Associate Judges of the Gourt of Common Pleas of Lycoming County Mrs. Rachel
Campbell, widow of Robert Campbell. and who on her oath doth depose and
say that she is the widow of Robert Campbell a pensioner of the United
States that a paper here unto attached is the record kept by her dead husband
of the births of their children that the dame was taken from a book kept
by him in which he recorded the births of his children and is one that
she knows, that it has always been in the family is the only record kept
by him of the same and was taken out of the book where it was kept for
the purpose of transmitting to the Commissioner of Pensions and begins
with the name of Samuel Campbell oldest child who was born March 27, 1786
- that when the declaration was made by her in January 1839 before the
Honorable Asher Davidson she had not the record in her possession but the
same was with her son who lived many miles from her but she has now procured
it for the purpose of transmitting the same to the proper departments subscribed
before me this 20th day of February 1839

identical person who subscribed a declaration before me in January 1839
for a pension as widow of Robert Campbell - and that by reason of age and
informity she is unable to appear in open court to make the oath
