Debbie,
I would have a strong hunch that the myth of the first Campbells in NA being
3 brothers is highly unlikely. It is a myth which, like most, has grown
from a fact misinterpreted - that for one family that was true - but not for
all Campbells.
The first I know of on record at present was John Campbell who went to
Boston and started the first newspaper in the American colonies in the 17th
century.

Subject: General Question
I had someone tell me today that the first Campbells here in the US
were 3
brothers. One brother came to Georgia, one to New York and I think one to
NC. Is this really true?
I have been researching my Campbell line for years and am having
absolutely no luck
getting back beyond my great great grandfather Campbell
(George Campbell, born 1886 in New York). I am at a complete loss of where
to go next!
