Edward,
Dr. Campbell's book on Dunadd has recently been published. I have
read
through much of it but have not come to the conclusion in which I
suppose he
must make the statement about not finding Irish related items. It is
well
laid out and illustrated.
I will be interested to see what he states about that issue in his
book.
Perhaps it will increase sales of a very interesting work.
The next step should presumably be to do some further archeological
work in
the Dal Riata of northern Ireland to see whether there are any
similarities
there to the finds at Dunadd.
It is true that the theory will not help in the integration of the
most
insecure Northern Irish Sectarians into the population of their fellow
human
beings in Ireland. I mean the argument that the Ulstermen were just
returning Scotti was helpful but always a bit thin, so many being from
the
southwest of Scotland and fewer from 17th century Argyll.
I must say that one of the most intriguing things about an interest in
history is how new discoveries of fact are being made all the time.
The
last quarter of the 20th century had more developments in Scots
history
based upon fresh research than in the previous 100 years.
All best, Diarmid (5 miles from Dunadd in Argyll)
