The area stated, "Massie's Mill"...has my attention, right along with
JOHNSON and CAMPBELL.
Additionally, I need to ask if your JOHNSON line has been DNA'd, and if
so...with what company and...where did the results fall??? Or do you know??
Early in VA there were so many JOHNSON families, that you could not turn
around without stepping on a Johnson's toe, which was why the DNA services
have been so much help. *S*
My JOHNSON's are DNA'd, www.ftdna.com. Mine are the Michael JOHNSON (d.1718
Tuckahoe Creek) line
directly thru his son John, to his grandson Joseph, to his great
granddaughter Joanna JOHNSON who m. Nathaniel MOSS. By Joanna's birth, the
area that they lived in was Goochland Co., VA, which was originally a part
of Henrico Co. This line of JOHNSON, through the generations, were residing
in almost all of the VA Counties, and...some probably still are in some
capacity.
My line of MOSS-JOHNSON left VA circa 1785, and headed south to "Old
Ninety-Six" SC, and settled across the Savannah River in the part of Wilkes
Co. GA that would become Oglethorpe Co., GA.
Both Nathaniel MOSS and his wife, Joanna JOHNSON, had family residing in
"Old Ninety-Sic" SC, and at least one JOHNSON made the effort to settle in
Oglethorpe Co., GA....near to them.
Additionally, I am interested in your CAMPBELL line, and again my CAMPBELL's
have been DNA'd. My Charles CAMPBELL fits into CAMPBELL DNA Group 40, and
this DNA is also based at www.ftdna.com.
Unfortunately, none of us have been able to trace backwards on CAMPBELL,
past about 1785 and also in the area of Wilkes Co. GA that in 1793 would
become Oglethorpe Co., GA. We have some clues, albeit "Family tradition."
There has been at least one of my CAMPBELL line who have participated in the
new "Family Finder" program at www.ftdna.com ...but so far nothing concrete
has been found for prior to 1785. What has been found...is quite
tantalizing. *S*
With a middle name listed for your Josephine...I am wondering if she was
married twice.
Maiden name EPSON, m. CAMPBELL, and then m. JOHNSON?? Or...were they
Catholic??
Most people born prior to about 1780...didn't have middle names, which is
why I am asking.
My CAMPBELL line:
Charles CAMPBELL, b. circa 1730-1740, (??Scotland, or ?? Ireland, or by
tradition VA??)
d. before 1817, (GA, or MS, or LA)
m. (atleast) 2x:
1st, abt 1755, Elizabeth BELINDEN (BELLENDEN, BALANDINE, etc.) b.
circa 1740, (VA?)
d. before 1800, probably in Oglethorpe Co., GA
CH: Levi (Levy, Leni), Charles, Lorany (Lorraine, Laurany)
probably, Keziah (Kissiah)
possibly a.... Robert CAMMEL (no data known)
2nd, 1800 GA, Mrs. Richard (Milly HORN) Bailey, a widow with grown
children
Milly Horn, b. Johnston Co., NC, and d.
before 1817
_\ Levi CAMPBELL, b. 1755-1760, possibly VA, and d. 22 Jan 1817 St. Martin
Parish, LA
m. 1787 GA, Sarah "Sally" WATKINS, d/o Reace and (Sarah (Barber)
WATKINS
(Cadwalader WATKINS line, Wales > PA > VA >
NC > GA)
(George BARBER Sr. line, possibly Ireland > VA >
NC > GA)
Both the WATKINS and BARBER lines are now DNA'd, and can be found at
www.ftdna.com.
I have more information on all of these lines, but...I am trying to be
brief. *S*
Thanking you in advance,
