Hello Cousins,
I have a new mystery to solve, and I hope that you can help me.
I'm looking for the family of a Will(iam) CAMPBELL. We don't know when he was born exactly, but when he died on January 11th, 1934 in Gibson County, his death certificate listed him as age 70. I think he is related to my line, but the death certificate listed him as parents "unknown". The informant was a Bob Lowrance, who is distantly related to my line thru marriage. I wonder if Will was adopted at a young age (bit was old enough to retain his name) by the Lowrance family. Can you help cousins?
Rob

There is a documented marriage record of December 2, 1783 for a John Couch & Elizabeth Campbell that has been used for Ashe Co NC/Perry co Ky John Couch & the mother of his son-In-Laws. Elizabeth Campbell.
**********************************
NEW INFORMATION HAS BEEN FOUND THAT THIS RECORD DOES NOT BELONG TO ASHE CO/PERRY CO JOHN COUCH & ELIZABETH CAMPBELL.
*********************************
Read below & come to your own conclusions!
1777 marriage record of widow Mary Couch & widow John Patterson.
1783 marriage record belonging to one John Couch & Eliz. Campbell.
1787 There was a huge law suit amoung John Patterson's children & grandchildren. when he died.
1796 Mary Couch Patterson is "Mother to that Orange co John Couch" her will states surviving childen of 'John & Besty's children', his wife deceased. Mary,Letty, Julia, Elinoe & Elizabeth.
(meaning Eliz/Besty died before 1796.)
(meaning those girls Mary, Letty, Julia, Elinor & Elizabeth, are Mary's grandchildren)
(also since those were the only people
mentioned in Mary Couch Patterson's will, Then John Couch must have been an only child)
1799 widow John Couch went on to marry Susana Smith d/o Martha & John Smith.
1823 Mecklenburg co the will of John Couch mentions wife Susannah, the same daughters names, Mary, Letty, Julia, Elinor & Elizabeth. Now one son John S. (2nd wife, Susannah Smith, being his mother)
Conclusion:
Mary Couch Patterson is the mother of John. she died 1796.
Eliz/Besty died before 1796
John remarried & had one son John S. Couch.
Take away that Dec 1783 marriage record & our John NEVER married his daughters Mother-in-law.
There is a good chance all the children, Mary, Sarah, Nancy, Martin & John, were by Mary Boon & John Couch. Also good chance John Couch NEVER married more than once.

Richard, I have often wondered about the relationship between my Hamiltons and some of those you identify. If your Hance and Thomas served as sheriffs, justices of the peace, judges and attorneys in Guilford, then they were very much involved with my Hamiltons and Campbells.
Whether they were related or not is another question. Check Faye Jarvis Moran's website, "The Jarvis Family and Other Relatives" <http://www.fmoran.com/hamil.html>. There is a genealogy of my Hamiltons that may answer your question--or simply raise more. I believe that there was a Hance Hamilton in my line, though it doesn't show up on this version.
I just located a reference to the Guilford County Hance and Thomas in my files and am pasting it below:
"..was commissioned April 1, 1777 and was serving January 1778 as surgeon of the 7th North Carolina Regiment; as "Hance HAMILTON" served as sheriff of Guilford County NC Nov 1 1790.
...of Granville COunty North Carolina was in Rowan County North Carolina Sept 27, 1776"
These notes he takes from North Carolina Colonial Records Vol 4, p796, p 1077 and p.871.
The family book lists parents as Thomas HAMILTON and Jane MCCRACKEN. There were some children born in IRE that never made it to US. "..Thomas lived to a very advance dage in the family of his son Hance, and wife mary MCNAIRY. Thomas was an invalid for 20 years before dying in their home." Hance's siblings include James and 3 daughters.
" from a letter written by Mary (MCNAIRY) HAMILTON's brother John McNAIRY on Nov 4, 1834:
... more than 50 years ago when she (Mary)married Hance, the only son of Thomas, who has been dead 5-6 years and his son (Hance) has been dead some 20 years, having 10 children, some of whom are now dead... in the many (family) conversations had it was said that Thomas served as an officer in the Revolutionary War, and that the first acquaintance Mary had with him was at the Guilford Battle. He and a large collection of his lived near the south border of VA. About the close of the war he said he and his moved to from VA and settled in the county of Guilford NC. She said that she nursed Capt. Thomas for 20 years before he died in 1829.
"Hance signed a will which was recorder in Franklin COunty PA at December Court 1788 in which he devised his estate to his brother William HAMILTON in Ireland."

Most recent info for George Hamilton 1722-1796
•
1722 onwards , Guilford County, North Carolina and points west
•
George and Frances "Fanny" Brown Hamilton had ten children, eight sons and two daughters, according to the letters of Joseph Brown. This is the starting point for sorting out the confusing information found in the Ancestry.com databases. After checking a number of sources, a high probability is that Frances Brown was George's second wife. Now one must deal with the probability that: (1) The name of Spouse One may be Catherine with a marriage date of 1742. (2) The first four of George’s children born in Pennsylvania before 1750 were from this marriage; (3) Frances Brown was George's second spouse (4) The marriage date of about 1750 is assumed to be correct for Frances Brown. Hance Hamilton, born in 1750s, was one of the eight sons born to George and Frances Brown Hamilton. Margaret Hamilton was their second daughter and last child born in 1767 when Fanny was about 40, therefore, these assumptions are probably correct: three sons (George, Thomas, and John) and one daughter J!
oanna assigned to the first marriage; two daughters, Hannah and Margaret, and eight sons to the second marriage for a total of 14 children sired by George Hamilton. Y-DNA tests for a descendant from the first spouse matches that of a descendant from the second marriage.

AT, thank you for searching out and bringing to light the 2005 Sherwood
conversation. The message attributed to Don Sturm was actually written by
John Field Pankow, who tells of the political and military circumstances of
the Campbells, Hamiltons, Fields and many other Scotch-Irish families in
Guilford County, North Carolina, who actively rebelled against the British
crown long before the American Revolution began. It's an excellent account.

In Reply to: _Re: John SHERWOOD from Talbot County MD_
(http://genforum.genealogy.com/sherwood/messages/2454.html) by Don Sturm
of 2893
Hello Cousin!
I would be most pleased to compare notes with you on our ancestors. In the
past, I have corresponded with descendants of some of the Sherwoods who
went out to Indiana. Unfortunately, recently I've been having some computer
problems which are not yet resolved, so a lot of the information I had is
not available to me.... unless I go plowing through the stacks of paper I've
got piled up around here. I had it all arranged in some order on the
computer. Hopefully, it will be able to be recovered.
In the earlier post, I told pretty much what I know about the Sherwood
line. The plantation house, Sherwood Manor, still stands in Talbot County,
Maryland, but it is not certain whether that house was built by the
Sherwoods
or by later owners. Similarly, a house stands at Crooked Intention, which
was Hugh Sherwood's Maryland plantation, but it is not known if it is old
enough to have been built by him. I believe it is. They say Hugh planned to
go back to England, but the land he was granted pleased him so much that it
"crook'd his intention" which is how the place got its name.
Lately, I have found a bit of information on Mary Brooke, Hugh Sherwood's
wife.... She would be our 8th great grandmother, I think. She was a
daughter of John Brooke (b.1605) and granddaughter of Richard Brooke
(1561-1612)
and his wife Susan Forster, and great granddaughter of Sir Richard Brooke
(1530-1592/3) and his wife Elizabeth Twyne (c.1540-1599, a daughter of Sir
Bryan Twyne), all of a prominent English families.
As to the Field line, the farthest back I can go is to William Field
(1698-1748), our 6th great grandfather, and his wife Jane, maiden name
unknown
to me. William began appearing in land records in Pennsylvania in the
1720s.
Legend has it that he was from Maryland or Virginia, and may have been
connected somehow to Mary Field of Virginia, who was Thomas Jefferson's
grandmother, but I cannot document this. William and Jane had seven
children,
named in his will. They were John (born bef.1727, d. 1788, m. Mary Powell),
William (bef.1727-1805, our ancestor, m. Lydia), Robert (aft.1727-1820, m.
Ann Walker), Jeremiah (aft.1727-c.1820, m. Mary), Joseph (aft.1727-c.1780,
m.
Lydia Julian), Mary (born aft. 1730), Ann (born aft.1730, died in the
1830s in Missouri, m. Ninian Beall Hamilton).
William Field, Sr. died in Pa. and is buried at the Old White Episcopal
Church cemetery in Lancaster (now Adams) County, Pa. This is near York
Springs, Pa. His gravestone is said to still be standing, and someone up
there
was supposed to be making a picture of it for me, but I haven't gotten it
yet.
After William's death, Jane and her children moved to North Carolina, in
the area that was then Orange and Rowan Counties, and became Guilford after
1771, and Randolph after 1779. Jane applied for land grants in NC in
November of 1755.
The story of the Field family in NC is rather interesting, if you don't
already know it. The brothers were all involved with the Regulators'
movement, which rebelled against the corrupt administration of British
Governor
Tryon in the 1760s, and fought Tryon's troops at the Battle of Alamance in
1771. They were soundly defeated. After the defeat, those who weren't
hanged on
the spot, were forced to swear an oath of loyalty to the King. Shortly
after this, Tryon was replaced by Gov. Josiah Martin, who made a trip to
the
area and met with the Regulators at William Field's house to hear their
grievances. (This all comes from most fascinating articles in "The Guilford
Genealogist" written by Mrs. Sueanne Field of Virginia.)
Guilford County was formed in 1771, to politically isolate the rebellious
Regulators, and the first representative to the NC legislature from the
county was our William Field, in which capacity he served from 1771 to
1774.
When the Revolution broke out in earnest, however, he wrote that he felt
compelled, because of the oath he had taken, to remain loyal to the King,
and
he and his brothers wound up in the British Army, of all things. William
was a Colonel. After the war, however, he petitioned to the State of NC,
and
had his confiscated lands returned to him, and seems to have been quite a
respected member of his community.
William married a lady named Lydia, whose maiden name is unknown to me,
and they had eight children: William (no dates known, married Anne); Mary
(c.1760-1846, married Pierce Noland, went to Mississippi); Lydia
(1762-1852,
m. Richard Lewis, died in Indiana); Jeremiah (c.1764-1830, m. Eleanor
Sherwood, died Randolph Co., NC, my ancestors); Robert (no dates known);
Jane (no
dates known, married a Stroud, per her father's will); Rebecca
(c.1772-1852, m. Hugh Sherwood, died in Indiana, your ancestors); Tabitha
(c.1775-aft.
1859, m. Thomas Sherwood Kirkman, was still living in Randolph County, NC
in 1859).
I have had quite a bit of luck in tracing the ancestry of our fifth great
grandmother, Frances Linthicum (1749-1806), Mrs. Daniel Sherwood III. She
was a daughter of Francis Linthicum and Eleanor Williams (1717-1788).
Francis was a son of Hezekiah Linthicuim & Milcah Francis. Hezekiah was a
son of
Thomas Linthicum (c.1640-1721) and his wife Jane Spurlock who were both
born in Wales and settled in Maryland, on Chesapeake Bay. Thomas was a
Quaker,
but had a falling out with the Quaker Church, and became an Anglican, of
All Hallows Parish, South River, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland.
Eleanor Williams was a daughter of Richard Williams and Eleanor Stockett.
Richard Williams was a son of Joseph Williams (c.1660-1692) of Baltimore
Co. Maryland, and his wife Mary Robertson. Eleanor Stockett was a daughter
of
Thomas Stockett, IV (1667-1732) and his first wife Mary Sprigg (1671-1694).
Mary Sprigg was a daughter of Thomas Sprigg, Jr. (c.1630-1704) and his
second wife, Eleanor Nuthall, a daughter of John Nuthall of Cross Manor. I
have a picture of a portrait of Thomas Sprigg, and also a photograph of his
Prince George's County, Maryland plantation, Northampton, which he built
around 1675. The house stood until 1909, when it burned. He was a son of
Col.
Thomas Sprigg and Katherine Griffin, and came to Maryland in the 1650s.
Thomas Stockett IV was a son of Thomas Stockett III and his wife Mary
Wells. Thomas III and his three brothers were supporters of King Charles I
& II
during the English civil war and went into exile with Chares II in France
after the king was killed. The Stocketts came to Maryland in 1658, and
established plantations there. One, called Obligation, still stands.... but
it
is the same story... it is unclear when it was built. The oldest part of it
may date to around 1700.
Mary Wells was a daughter of Dr. Richard Wells (c.1609-1667), who
immigrated to Virginia in 1635. He served in the Virginia House of
Burgesses, and
moved to Maryland in 1653. At the time of his death, he owned 4,350 acres
in
Maryland. He was a Puritan. His wife may, or may not, have been Frances
Whyte, a daughter of Sir Richard Whyte and his wife Lady Catherine Weston
of
Hutton Hall, Essex, England, English Catholics who died on a pilgrimage to
Rome in 1645.
Thomas Stockett III was the son of Thomas Stockett, Jr. and Frances
Aylsworth, who were first cousins, both being the grandchildren of Lewis
Stockett
(c.1530-1579) an officer in the household of Queen Elizabeth Ist, and his
wife Lucy (d.1601). There is a memorial panel for Lucy Stockett in St.
Stephen's Church, Hackington, Kent, England, showing hers and her husband's
coats of arms. Because of the arms, it is believed her maiden name was
Beane
or Marwood. Her son Thomas Stockett I, married Joan Biggs. Her daughter
Joan
Stockett married Walter Alyworth/Aylesworth. These two couples were the
parents of Thomas, Jr. and Frances.
Walter Aylworth was a son of John Aylworth (d.1575), a Member of
Parliament, and his wife Elizabeth Ashton (c.1527-1564). There is a
memorial panel
to Walter in St. Stephen's Church, as well. One of his brothers, Anthony,
was a professor at Oxford, and physician to Queen Elizabeth. One of his
sisters was Frances, Lady Reynell. I have a copy of a portrait of her made
c.
1597. The original is in a museum in Australia. Aylworth is said to be an
ancient Saxon family.
Well, I am rambling on and on. Hope some of this might be of interest to
you.
Best Regards,
John

AT, thank you for searching out and bringing to light the 2005 Sherwood
conversation. The message attributed to Don Sturm was actually written by
John Field Pankow, who tells of the political and military circumstances of
the Campbells, Hamiltons, Fields and many other Scotch-Irish families in
Guilford County, North Carolina, who actively rebelled against the British
crown long before the American Revolution began. It's an excellent account.

Eleanor
Sherwood, died Randolph Co., NC, my ancestors); Robert (no dates known);
Jane (no
dates known, married a Stroud, per her father's will); Rebecca
Hope some of this might be of interest to
you.
Best Regards,
John

Some of those Hamiltons were Tories, off and on. Like so many during those
turbulent times, they changed their alignments. They just wanted to end up
on the winning side. Unfortunately, Ninian Beall Hamilton guessed wrong
and
paid for it by being banished. On the other hand, he made a good life for
himself in Missouri, so I guess we needn't feel too sorry for him.
My ancestor, John Campbell (b. 10 Sep 1775, probably Guilford County NC)
was
the illegitimate son of Ninian Hamilton's daughter, Mary Hamilton. Court
records suggest that John was raised by his uncle, James Campbell, and his
wife, Mary Dent Campbell. After James's death, his widow remarried, moved
to Georgia and left young John a ward of the court. At that point, John
Campbell's uncle, Horatio Hamilton, took John home to live with his growing
family. There John found, at age 11, his own mother, Mary, who was serving
as nanny for the Hamilton children.
John Campbell and Horatio Hamilton remained close throughout the rest of
Horatio's life, though it appears that they may have parted company when it
came to the ownership of slaves. That could have been the reason that John
sold his land in Stokes County and moved to Surry. I can't think of
another
good reason why he would have done so in mid-life.
For the record, James Campbell, uncle of my ancestor, John (we'll call him
John Junior), and his brother, John Campbell (John Senior), were Rev War
soldiers stationed at Guilford Court House (NC) in 1775. John Senior died
that year, perhaps not even realizing that he had left Mary Hamilton
pregnant with his son. James died a few years later.
I have not found strong links between my Campbells and the Campbells and
Couches under discussion, though Larry Campbell and I have, for years,
tried
to figure out whether they might have been linked by the name Milton
Campbell. It is not a common given name, yet there were two or three
Miltons in Stokes and Surry Counties (NC) during the first half of the 19th
century. It was the name of someone in Larry's Surry County Campbells, and
it was the name of one of John Campbell Junior's children. I have not been
able to find out more about "my" Milton Campbell, but I have seen the name
circulating around Stokes and Surry, North Carolina records over many
decades.
Oh, if only our ancestors had been given really, really unusual names!
Maureen

1788, m. Mary
Powell),
William (bef.1727-1805, our ancestor, m. Lydia), Robert (aft.1727-1820,
m.
Ann Walker), Jeremiah (aft.1727-c.1820, m. Mary), Joseph
(aft.1727-c.1780, m.
Lydia Julian), Mary (born aft. 1730), Ann (born aft.1730, died in the
1830s in Missouri, m. Ninian Beall Hamilton).
William Field, Sr. died in Pa. and is buried at the Old White Episcopal
Church cemetery in Lancaster (now Adams) County, Pa. This is near York
Springs, Pa. His gravestone is said to still be standing, and someone up
there
was supposed to be making a picture of it for me, but I haven't gotten it
yet.
After William's death, Jane and her children moved to North Carolina, in
the area that was then Orange and Rowan Counties, and became Guilford
after
1771, and Randolph after 1779.
Josiah Martin, who made a trip to
the
area and met with the Regulators at William Field's house to hear their
grievances. (This all comes from most fascinating articles in "The
Guilford
Eleanor
Sherwood, died Randolph Co., NC, my ancestors); Robert (no dates known);
Jane (no
dates known, married a Stroud, per her father's will); Rebecca
Eleanor Stockett was a
daughter of
Thomas Stockett, IV (1667-1732) and his first wife Mary Sprigg
(1671-1694).
Mary Sprigg was a daughter of Thomas Sprigg, Jr. (c.1630-1704) and his
second wife, Eleanor Nuthall, a daughter of John Nuthall of Cross Manor.
I
have a picture of a portrait of Thomas Sprigg, and also a photograph of
his
Prince George's County, Maryland plantation, Northampton, which he built
around 1675.
One, called Obligation, still stands....
but it
is the same story... it is unclear when it was built. The oldest part of
it
may date to around 1700.
Mary Wells was a daughter of Dr. Richard Wells (c.1609-1667), who
immigrated to Virginia in 1635. He served in the Virginia House of
Burgesses, and
moved to Maryland in 1653. At the time of his death, he owned 4,350 acres
in
Maryland. He was a Puritan. His wife may, or may not, have been Frances
Whyte, a daughter of Sir Richard Whyte and his wife Lady Catherine Weston
of
Hutton Hall, Essex, England, English Catholics who died on a pilgrimage
to
Rome in 1645.
Stephen's Church, Hackington, Kent, England, showing hers and her
husband's
coats of arms.
I have a copy of a portrait of her
made c.
1597. The original is in a museum in Australia. Aylworth is said to be an
ancient Saxon family.
Well, I am rambling on and on. Hope some of this might be of interest to
you.
Best Regards,
John

Marge, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the time & effort.
Yes these families are from the Thos Couch abt 1705 & Elizabeth unkn of Orange Co. As I have never seen this before, I have sent it forward to the Couch family.. as I see some dob & dod we didn't have. Thank you.
My Couch & Campbell line are not from the Orange co & Amherst co area. Couch DNA says yes, but we have come to the conclusion the family connection may be in the UK.
My Campbell line also says NO to the Orange& Amherst DNA.
My Couch & Campbell are from the northern portion of NC. New River area.
My problem is a marriage in Orange Co Dec 1783 of one
ELIZABETH CAMPBELL & a JOHN COUCH.
This marriage has now been proven, does NOT belong to us. But, for years, it has been accecpted as gossple for my/our family. The new information has changed so much for the family line.
The belief that PATRICK CAMPBELL& ELIZABETH (possible JAMES) are the parents of JOHN & WM. CAMPBELL. The boys married COUCH SISTERS, MARY & NANCY, parents are MARY BOON & JOHN COUCH..
MARY BOON COUCH died abt 1781 & buried in Ashe Co NC.
PATRICK CAMPBELL 'divorced' ELIZABETH, she then marries the COUCH, her sons father-in-law.
But now it has been proven That marriage in Dec 1783 does NOT belong to my Couch/Campbell family.
John Couch, widowed mother Mary Couch married 1777 Orange co, to widower John Patterson. (Sarah Tapley, widow of Philip Mulkey, Sr)
There was a large family law suit over the will of John Patterson, wife Mary & grandson Mann Patterson against the rest of the family...that went on for years.
The will of Mary unkn Couch-Patterson 1796 states; All her estate, be equally divided amoung the surviving children of John Couch & Besty, his deceased wife. The children listed are Mary, Letitia, July, Eleanor & Elizabeth. all under 18. Executors worthy friends Robert Campbell, Roger Daniel & John Couch.
Witnesses Robert Couch & Roger 'X' Daniel.
Oct 1799 widow John Couch marries Susannah Smith (d/o Martha & John Smith)
July 1823 Mecklenburg Co John Couch will mentions wife Susannah & children Polly, Letty, Julia, Ealinor & Elizabeth plus son John S.
1. I am trying to find, who is widow Mary Couch?
2. Who are the Parents of John Couch?
3. WHO is Elizabeth Campbell, Robert Campbell?
4. Who is Roger Daniel?
5 Who is Robert Couch?
6. AND true wives of PATRICK CAMPBELL. Grace Hayes, Delilia Thompson, Elizabeth who?
I didn't mean to be so much trouble. I thought sure the Campbells of Amherst & Orange area, would just have better handle this!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have several different Campbell lines, and
several Ann Campbells of similar vintage, but they're all in the Loch Awe
and Inveraray areas. This lady in Perth is new -- but she could have come
from any of the other areas, I guess. Although she was presumably born about
1756, I'm figuring it could have been later: they did tend to stretch their
ages when they got older.
Thanks again for any help,
Sheila

Hello Cousin!
I would be most pleased to compare notes with you on our ancestors. In the
past, I have corresponded with descendants of some of the Sherwoods who
went out to Indiana. Unfortunately, recently I've been having some computer
problems which are not yet resolved, so a lot of the information I had is
not available to me.... unless I go plowing through the stacks of paper I've
got piled up around here. I had it all arranged in some order on the
computer. Hopefully, it will be able to be recovered.
In the earlier post, I told pretty much what I know about the Sherwood
line. The plantation house, Sherwood Manor, still stands in Talbot County,
Maryland, but it is not certain whether that house was built by the Sherwoods
or by later owners.
She was a

Parliament, and his wife Elizabeth Ashton (c.1527-1564). There is a memorial panel
to Walter in St. Stephen's Church, as well. One of his brothers, Anthony,
was a professor at Oxford, and physician to Queen Elizabeth. One of his
sisters was Frances, Lady Reynell. I have a copy of a portrait of her made c.
1597. The original is in a museum in Australia. Aylworth is said to be an
ancient Saxon family.
Well, I am rambling on and on. Hope some of this might be of interest to
you.
Best Regards,
John

Information wanted on Alice Edith Campbell, daughter of James
Campbell, who on 2 August 1879 married Surg. Patrick Joseph O'Sullivan
at the Anglican cathedral in Bombay. She may possibly have been the
daughter born to Lieut. J.B. Campbell, 8th King's Regt, on 20 July
1853, at Deesa in Gujarat.

Some of those Hamiltons were Tories, off and on. Like so many during those
turbulent times, they changed their alignments. They just wanted to end up
on the winning side. Unfortunately, Ninian Beall Hamilton guessed wrong and
paid for it by being banished. On the other hand, he made a good life for
himself in Missouri, so I guess we needn't feel too sorry for him.
My ancestor, John Campbell (b. 10 Sep 1775, probably Guilford County NC) was
the illegitimate son of Ninian Hamilton's daughter, Mary Hamilton. Court
records suggest that John was raised by his uncle, James Campbell, and his
wife, Mary Dent Campbell.
I can't think of another
good reason why he would have done so in mid-life.
I have not found strong links between my Campbells and the Campbells and
Couches under discussion, though Larry Campbell and I have, for years, tried
to figure out whether they might have been linked by the name Milton
Maureen

I have just found yet another Campbell line in my family history, again in
Scotland. Ann Campbell was born about 1756, probably in Perthshire. She
married John Menzies in Perth about 1785. They had: Margaret, Robert,
Christian, John, Ann and Robertson. Ann herself died in Perth 11 February
1841 and is buried in Greyfriars Cemetery there.
I'm guessing that Ann's parents might have been named John Campbell and
Margaret. Does anyone happen to have this family lurking in their branches?
There are too many possible candidates in the Scottish records.
Sheila
To add a bit more confusion....
Daniel CAMPBELL (abt 1790-9 Apr 1849) born in North Carolina married Martha
"Patsy" ALLISON 4 Sep 1811. Martha (born 1791) was the daughter of John
Robert ALLISON, Jr. and Sarah TOLER. John and Martha were born in Orange
County, NC. John was the son of John Robert ALLISON, Sr. and Martha
HAMILTON.
According to "The Allison's of Orange County, North Carolina" Daniel's
brother (twin?) married Grizzel ALLISON, Martha's sister.
Several of Daniel & Martha's grandchildren ended up in Adair Co., KY by
1860.
My ALLISONS, with CAMPBELLS and CROUCHS are listed on several land grants
next to each other in Orange County, NC.
Daniel is my brick wall. Any help is appreciated.
Tamra

YES, YES, YES Maureen,
I would love to know more abt your Couches & Campbell in 'that' area!!
We now know the Orange Co NC & surrounding area Couches are of the same
DNA but, a different branch of the Couch line. Possible connection could be
England!
There are two DNA Couch branches of the northern neck area, then New River
area.
Let me know.

Just to add to the confusion, my Campbell line seems to have originated in
Western North Carolina (Stokes and Guilford Counties), where they were near
neighbors of some of these Campbells and Couches in Surry County. My
Campbells then moved to Surry around 1820, which has always made me wonder
if there is some connection.
Some information on my line is found on Faye Jarvis Moran's web page at
http://www.fmoran.com/campbell.html. If anyone can make connections, I
would be grateful.
