Hello Cousins,
Does anyone have a copy of this book? Supposedly, the book includes the CATLETT and CAMPBELL family of Caroline County (Lawrence CAMPBELL, said to be of Caroline County I a deed in 1756, was married to Henrietta CATLETT). Wondering if anyone has the book before I go buy it.

Good morning all,
Through the efforts of a cousin, I have come across a "clue" for my Charles
CAMPBELL (Snr),
through a DAR file which has shoved my research back into VA (WVA) and PA,
and back about
...20 years further than any of my cousins and I had previously found in
recorded data.
I now have a solid date/location to follow for further research...along with
the name of
his Militia Unit, a date of enlistment (or re-enlistment), and a location of
the same.
The Unit was, O'Hara's Independent Company of (VA??) Regulars.
In the time-frame that included 1777, this Unit was stationed at Ft. Pitt in
Pittsburgh PA.
There seems to have been the possibility of a recruitment drive in Wheeling
VA (now WVA),
or there was some assignment that put them there in July 1777.
It is my understanding that in the years 1776-1781, there were a number of
CAMPBELL's
in O'Hara's Regulars, and these gentlemen were "primarily" from the Augusta
Co. VA area.
This Unit had at least two named Charles Campbell; a PVT Charles and a
Colonel Charles.
As much as I would like to claim that Colonel Charles Campbell as my
ancestor, the info
that I have always found on him indicates that...I cannot. His wife's name
was, Mary,
and that does NOT match my Charles. This I have known, and for a very long
time. (sigh!)
HOWEVER, after 40+ years of my searching, my cousins and I finally have a
trail to follow
because this "new to me DAR clue" helps in that...we may now claim, PVT
Charles Campbell.
That is, unless there were two PVT Charles Campbell's in Capt. O'Hara's
Unit. *S*
Charles CAMPBELL enlisted, July 23, 1777, and was recorded with the rank of
PVT.
I have long known of at least one Charles CAMPBELL of Augusta Co. VA,
through the Chalkley Chronicles, but until this DAR file...I had nothing to
indicate that my Charles was in
any way connected to Augusta Co., VA. With the exception of by "family
tradition." *S*
I am aware of Gilbert CAMPBELL's youngest son, Charles, and I have
repeatedly returned
to looking at that Charles...but the use of the term "infant" in his Will
dated 1752 has
always been a big issue. That could mean that Gilbert's, Charles, was under
age 10, or
it could have...just simply meant that he had not yet reached his "adult
majority."
Is anyone on this list also researching the CAMPBELL's of Augusta Co., VA,
c. 1770s,
who may have or know of a Charles CAMPBELL b. 1730s - early 1740's???
I am looking for a Charles CAMPBELL, who was married sometime between
1755-1760, and
...who left VA sometime before 1796. In 1796, my Charles CAMPBELL purchased
land in GA,
from his son, Levi, and the purchase was recorded in Oglethorpe Co. GA.
What we know:
Charles CAMPBELL, b. 1730s - d. aft 1700 and bef 1817, GA, or enroute to LA
from GA
m. 1st, Elizabeth (Belinden, Bellenden, Balantine, Valentine, or
Blandon)
b. abt 1740, "of VA" - bef. 1800
...Incomplete list of CH:
Levi CAMPBELL, b. 1755-1760, m. 1785 in Wilkes Co., GA, Sarah
WATKINS
Charles CAMPBELL, b. 1755-1765, no data found
Laurany CAMPBELL, b. 1770, m. 1st, in Wilkes Co., GA, Benjamin
WATKINS
...possibly also:
Keziah (Kissiah) CAMPBELL, b. 1776 - d. abt 1807, m. in GA, Moses
WATKINS
Robert CAMPBELL, unk dob, no data found
m. 2nd, June 1800, Oglethorpe Co., GA to Mrs. Richard (Milly HORN)
Bailey, widow
We do have a way of sorting these, since my line has been Y-DNA'd, and there
are several
very close matches that trace back to the Staunton VA area. If I remember
correctly, to a
James CAMPBELL and an Alexander CAMPBELL....of the same time-frame. However,
at this time
none of us has been able to figure out what the connection actually was...or
where.
With the commonality of the name, "Charles," I am in the process of trying
to discover
how many Charles CAMPBELL's were there in VA and PA, as well as to reduce
the number of
these Charles CAMPBELL's to research. *S*
So, does anyone know of a Charles CAMPBELL, b. 1730-1740s, and who may have
resided in the
Augusta Co. VA area, who enlisted at Wheeling 1777 to Capt. O'Hara's
Independent Regulars?
Thanking all in advance,
Lisa

Hi folks,
Question-any ideas on where to find information on the 16th Division of the Virginia militia? This would have been the Amherst unit that Lawrence CAMPBELL is mentioned on.
