Do any of the Campbell researcher have any knowledge of a Matthew Campbell
living in Baltimore County, MD who appeared in the 1820 census there.
Did he have a wife Nancy and/or a daughter Nancy?

Hello Barry,
I have no info on John’s son, John. I have doubt that Matthew is my ancestor as some others believe. Next to Argyll, Ayrshire is the home area of Campbells. Some Historians think that they settled there first before coming a power in Argyll. My family is proven back to the marriage of Matthew Campbell and Jean Craig, 1784, in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. You should do name searches based on family naming patterns. The Scots were very consistent in that pattern. Look up all the possible John Campbells and using his children names start to narrow down the possibilities of his parents.
My Matthew had as his first son, a John, and daughters of Margaret, Janet, Jean. Most likely then his parents were John and Janet/Jean Campbell m c 1760 and bc 1740s probably close to Kilmarnock or at least East Ayrshire.
You should also get the DNA test done right away. This could tie you into other lines and researchers who could help.
Sorry that I don’t have more but get back to me if your research comes up with the Scotland connection in Ayrshire.

The census taker had parkinson's or the shakes of some kind...maybe he was
writing while on a train...who knows...very shaky writing.
The A is not exact...but there is an L on the page...looks like I would lean
towards the middle initial being an A.
If you are positive the middle initial is an L, then the next Arthur may be
a better fit.
Hint: If you have lots of folks saying gpa was a Cherokee....and born after
1850...and you can't find him...look towards Oklahoma...never leave out
Oklahoma...something a professional & well respected genealogist taught me.

Thought I would throw this out there and see if by chance that I get any hit
at all.......
I have searched high and low for information (including a paid researcher)
to locate information on a Arthur Lee Campbell, born around 1902. He lived
in the Tennessee area. I was told that he was Full Cherokee Indian, but can
not see how that could be. Married Arlie May Darrell (no record found)
Divorced, married two additional times to a Faye and a Nora. I was told that
he had two children by Faye (Debra and Mandy)
The issue is that we can not locate any items at all, at one point I thought
maybe he was a Cherokee Indian that maybe just took the name as Arthur
Campbell, but it is hard to understand why there is no information a=on any
of these people.
If anyone can point me to a good resource that might hold some information,
it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks Margie, I did find out that my dad (b1934) was an only child from the
marriage between Arthur Sr. and Arlie May, So these that were sent show
additional sibilings, so it eliminates them for the most part.

My guess is that Ann was born in or near Dull, though there's no
indication in the Bible. Her husband was from Dull, and all their
children were baptised in either Dull or Weem. No mentions of Argyll.
(All my other Campbells hail from Argyll!)

I've just found yet another Campbell branch on my tree. I've three or
four, all in Scotland.
Ann Campbell was born about 1753, according to her son's entry in
their Bible. She died a few months before the 1841 census, probably in
the city of Perth. She married John Menzies about 1785 in Perthshire,
probably in Dull parish, though I can't find an entry for the marriage.
From the names of their children, I would guess that her parents should
have been called Margaret and John Campbell. No luck in finding them or
her birth, though.
Does anyone out there have Ann on a family tree?
Sheila
Chris,
Unfortunately, I have no information on the John Campbell that married
Elizabeth Meikle/Mickle. However, I noticed that you indicated that his son
John was born about the time that I believe my ancestor named John Campbell
was born and I was wondering if you have more information on this son. My
John Campbell ancestor was married in Cecil County, Maryland on May 16,
1792, to a widow named Polly Evans (previously believed to be known as Mary
Passmore). I don’t know very much about him, but two sons ended up in
Pennsylvania (Thomas and William). According to some information my John Campbell
ancestor was born in Scotland and according to other information he was
born in Maryland. I have no idea of the names of my John Campbell’s parents.
Perhaps you could let me know if you think my John Campbell ancestor could
be the John Campbell that is the son of the John Campbell that married
Elizabeth Meikle/Mickle.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Barry Campbell
PS – I have not had my DNA tested yet, but plan to during the next year or
so.

Hello Listmates,
I?m looking for other researchers who believe they are descendants of John
Campbell and Elizabeth Meikle/Mickle, m 25 Dec 1758, Kilmarnock, ch:
Matthew, b 1759, Hugh, b 1761, Clementina, b 1763, Janet, b 1765, Elizabeth, b
1767, John, b 1769, Janet, b 1771, Margaret, 1778 to compare progress and
new researchers.
Also, if any of the male Campbell descendants have had their DNA tested
for comparison to our line.
Many thanks,

Please note my email address has changed to maryellen1(a)roadrunner.com Keep
up the good work A T. One day our brick wall is going to come tumbling down
and all of the work you have put into trying to locate our first Campbell to
set foot on USA soil & where he came from will be rewarded. Have you ever
thought that perhaps George came over with his mother, perhaps his father
had died before they left Scotland or Ireland. I know that anything is
possible, however, women were very low on the totem pole. They couldn't have
property in their name and most ship logs didn't list women. I know, there
are a million and one what ifs. It's great to be back on line again Campbell
Cousins. Look out, this is our year to make great discoveries. Mary Ellen
Campbell Mathers.

Thanks
Randy Campbell
Our earliest known Campbell was Ellis Campbell b 1804 in VA (on all census
records he was born in VA). Ellis was in Lincoln county TN in 1830, in 1840
he is in MO (Ripley county)..then Shannon county & his family is still in
MO...all over.
We also have family in Calif..Texas, etc. The branch that headed to
Calif...was actually a Burch line (Campbell girl married a Burch).
YES Cuz Ellis Campbell descends from my Amherst, County, Va. Campbell's

> Summary - The earliest record of Abraham Campbell is as a Campbellite
minister of Russell County, Virginia. He married Winnie Sevier (family legend
says she was the daughter of John Sevier, although she's not found on any
chart of John Sevier's children) around 1818 and had 8 children. Other
surnames associated with this line are: Jenkins, Carter or Carder, Maddox,
Parrott, Coward, Countess, Field, and Alexander. It is speculated that Abraham
Campbell's ancestors may have come from Coleraine Townland, North Ireland.
