Hi Veronica -
Thanks so much for the informative reply. So refreshing to hear how well you have researched this (which is also my) family. So many trees on Ancestry are suspect. So, if I understand you correctly, you and I are looking for the same person, the father of Alexander, James and your William. I would be very interested in seeing your tree - I imagine it has quite a bit more detail than mine.
Are you familiar with this:
Earliest Campbell Families in Maine, by Dr. LaRoy A. Campbell
Your note prompted me to get this out again, and I haven't had a chance to re-read it, but at first glance there's a lot in it that seems to hook up with what you have written.
Thanks again for your sharing.

although i have read that AT is being monitored..... when someone lash's
out at you with hurtful words it is a normal human reaction to lash back.
this is my opinion only, but when you put someone down for thier spelling
and call them trailer trash you should expect the same back! AT means no
harm and i would hope that ngharkey would mean no harm also. people grow
up in different regions of this country and ev1 should be accepted wether
they can spell or not. i have family still in the mountains and are they
are not educated....but that does not mean they are trash! i believe ev1
should be more tolerant of each other for we all come from different walks
of life! isn't that what all of this research is about?

James David Campbell was living in Garrard County, Kentucky

he died in 1913.
I have not been able to find out what earlier line of
Campbell's Joseph decends from or what if any connection
there is to the other Campbell Co., TN Campbells.
Any additonal info on any of the Campbells listed here would
be greatly appreciated.
Thank You!
Good Luck in your search for TN Campbells David!
Cheers,
Anne

David,
I have been trying to sort out the descendants of Middleton Campbell that
landed in Giles Co and some others but have not worked on them lately due to
other pressing matters to include our first grandson born last Friday.

Thanks Larry,
Congrats on the #1 grandson. I know you will want to spend some quality
time with him.
I have been trying to find the father/mother of Robert W. Campbell
(Giles Co.) but so far no luck.
Thanks very much for the email; at least I know there is hope out
there. <grin>
Enjoy the grandson.

Hi Veronica -
The mention of the Drummonds picqued my interest - I have always thought that the father of William Campbell b.15 Nov 1735 was Alexander Campbell who married Frances Drummond, and emigrated to the New World with the Drummond family. My source is the book The descendants of Alexander Drummond of Georgetown, Maine, by Josiah Hayden Drummond. But perhaps we are not referring to the same family. If you have some more info on this, I'd be curious to hear about that. I realize that sometimes these old books are not accurate, so I look forward to hearing about what you might have uncovered.

I found Louisa P. Campbell listed in the 1880 Giles County, Tennessee
census with her family living next door to the Robert and Mary Campbell
family. For the life of me I cannot find Robert and/or Mary's parents.
Do any of you good folks happen to know the names of their parents so I

Any help will be appreciated.

The speech patterns of the Appalachian people were evidence of the ancestry
(Scots-Irish) of the settlers there.
Almost all aspects of the culture, music, etc., reflected the heritage of
ancestors with Campbell, Hughes, Ingram,
McKinney, surnames. Such threads link back to when which Campbell's arrived
in the colonies.
I therefore indeed respect elders such as AT, recognizing their
contributions to genealogy by the demonstrating
of their family ties.

Hi Jeff, Well this is what I know. Per the DNA test, this Campbell line is classified as the Irish-Scot, coming from Northern Ireland. James Campbell was born in 1789 in either Pennsylvania or Kentucky. He married either a Sarah McClure or Sarah Campbell (possibility that there could have been two wives). He died in Ripley County, Indiana in 1829. He moved to Indiana by 1813 based on birth date of one of his daughter. He had several children in Kentucky-oldest boy was James Orville Campbell. There is a land record for a James Campbell in Kentucky in the correct time frame but I don't have enough information and the name is to common. My ancestor was named Francis Marion Campbell. That is all I know.

William Campbell 1825 - 1910 Son of Daniel
Annie I Campbell 1867 - 1942 Daughter of William My Grandmother
People like AT is what made our country, how many people do we know that hasn't broken English or an accent, or has words in their mouth that I wouldn't want served on my plate, for instant my father was from the south and my mother was a Campbell from Indiana, she said he couldn't talk plain (he was tongue tied) but that never kept her from loving him. Lets stand behind AT, anyone one with me?
"I still believe in my up-bringing, We should respect our elders, WE need to respect our
elders and their time here with us." Amen!
I also was raised to respect my elders. It is a lost treasure today. I respect you AT and enjoy reading your information and inquiries.
I agree.

Folks I don't usually weigh in on most subjects, but I feel compelled to give my opinion on this one, I think most of us find AT amusing and most of the time charming in his own way. I still believe
in my up-bringing, We should respect our elders, WE need to respect our elders and their time here with us. Folks can we just overlook some things?
AT is different and I'm most sure that he is proud to be just the way he is, he has a wisdom all his own, and the last time I checked out there, folks there
are a whole lot of educated fools among us.

Ahhhhh, salt on the wounds! One wonders if it were a gaelic brogue or some other historic spelling if there would be such lack of deference to AT's way
of communicating, would we occasionally get a person objecting.
Now for the REAL reason for communicating... Still am looking for information on a Mary Campbell married to Samuel Elliott in Allentown PA circa
American Revolution. Moved to Licking County OH.

I have always been proud of being a Campbell but find it difficult when one of us becomes rude and sarcastic. I for one enjoy AT and the language he uses. I am sure that is the lingo he learned as a child. That is part of the history we are searching for. Keep it up AT. Jean Bunch
