I'm a ggg granddaughter of William B. Campbell who married Charity Fowler
Davis (widow). William B. Campbell was b: ca 1824 in KY. Think I have
exact date from Family Bible Records at home. They lived in Northern AL and
all children known were daughters.
I'm descended from their daughter Emma Josephine Campbell Greenhill. She
died in Hill Co, TX. I have lots of info/pics/records to share.
Looking for any info/leads on William B. Campbell's siblings and parents.
Have a blessed day!

Is it possible that the parents of Dugald were not 'Campbells' but that he and his sister took the name (Campbell) by those who raised them after being orphaned?

Sue,
I just found a very promising Campbell for my Nancy Campbell b. ca
1780. (My query below.) I found Matthew Campbell in the 1820 census in
Baltimore Co., MD. The exciting part for me is that on same page of
the census were many names that I recognized including James and Joseph
Cooper. Joseph Cooper married Nancy Campbell in 1802. They are in my
line. Now I need to know something about Matthew Campbell. Since you
named a Matthew Campbell had a son John I thought you might have some
dates to support that. Have you ever found anything on John Campbell or
Matthew?
Matthew Campbell is listed on the census film M33 Roll 41 p. 46.
Baltimore Co., MD (Baltimore county abuts Baltimore Co.)
Now I need to know more about John and Matthew.. I'm excited to see
this new information of what I feel is strong evidence.

That group seems to have come from Frederick County, MD, based on a deed I found for John Campbell, who was administrator of his father Matthews estate. Matthew is listed as coming from Frederick Co MD. I think the John I can trace to is the SON of the John of that deed.

My gggrandmother was Mary Campbell, born 07 Sep 1856 in Wisconsin, died 17
Sep 1937 in Sandpoint, ID. Her dad was Thomas Campbell born in Ireland 22
Dec 1825, died in Sandpoint, ID 9 May 1906. He was married to Catherine
Wilson of Peebles, Scotland 1832-1914.
If the British census is the right one, Thomas and Catherine married and
lived with her parents in Peebles until they emigrated to Wisconsin in the
1850's. They moved to Sandpoint, ID and eventually had 10 kids. Thomas is my
brick wall. There are obituaries and biographies about him in Idaho, but
nothing back farther than that he was from Ireland.

I'm a 4th great granddaughter of Charles Campbell who lived in Mullaghbrack Parish,County Armagh, Northern Ireland what it is called today. He lived to be either 104 or 107 according to family records, and he was a loom weaver. His son, my 3rd great-grandfather, John Campbell, was a Lieutenant in the British Army, and served 21 years in the Dragoons. My great-great-grandfather was Patrick Campbell, who followed his brother John Campbell,Jr. over to America in 1848,after John,Sr. passed.Eventually all five brothers,Daniel,Patrick and Felix joined Patrick and John in America. They all settled in Southeast Illinois. I still live in this same area.

I'm a ggg granddaughter of William B. Campbell who married Charity Fowler Davis (widow). William B. Campbell was b: ca 1824 in KY. Think I have exact date from Family Bible Records at home. They lived in Northern AL and all children known were daughters.
I'm descended from their daughter Emma Josephine Campbell Greenhill. She died in Hill Co, TX. I have lots of info/pics/records to share.
Looking for any info/leads on William B. Campbell's siblings and parents.
Have a blessed day!

I am looking for any information on a Campbell family in Orange Co NC.
Daughter Elizabeth Campbell married a John Couch in Dec. 2, 1783.
Roger Campbell is mentioned as well as Robert Couch & Roger Daniel.
Elizabeth (Besty) died before Feb 1796 leaving daughters
Mary, Letitia (Letty), July (Julia), Eleanor & Elizabeth.
Letitia is the only dau that married (twice) and moved near Alanta Ga. She was also a spy during the Civil War.
Oct 1799 John Couch married Susannah Smith d/o Martha & John Smith. and had son John S. Couch.
John Couch's widowed mother Mary married widow John Patterson in Orange Co 1777.
Mary Couch Patterson will in 1796 only mentions John & Besty's daughters. So I will assume son John may be an only child.
This is not my family, but it has been very much confused with my Campbell & Couch families of Kentucky.
Mother Elizabeth (possible nee; James) sons John, William Campbell & daughter Janette.
My Campbell's were Orthodox Scotchman & his children taught him to read, so he could read his Bible.
Over the years Elizabeth was said to be married to an Patrick Campbell.
But, DNA has proven there are no conection to Patrick.
The 4 DNA Ky Campbell's stand alone in their group.
thanks,
Vic

I've looked at Aeneas (Enos, Eneas) Campbell & his wife Liazean (Lizzy Ann,
Elizabeth Ann) Belt Campbell several times.
I looked at his Rev War Pension file today. The information in the file is
from their youngest son, David Campbell b 26 Feb 1810 in GA.
There is a bible record , torn from the beginning or ending of the bible
flyleaves....
Aeneaz Campbell was married to Lizean Belt the 25th day of Febr 1791.
Aeneaz Campbell was born 3rd October 1757
Leazean Belt was born 20th Febr 1767
Birth of sons and daughters of
Aeneaz Campbelll in Leazean his wife
Thomas Campbell was born 10th April 1793
Elijah Campbell was born Jany 17th 1795
Umphrey Campbell was born Febr 18th 1797
Esther Campbell was born Jany 3rd 1799
Asa Campbell was born March 28th 1801
Rutha Campbell was born May 27th 1803
Belt Campbell was born Sept 9th 1805
Elizabeth C Campbell was born Sept 23rd 1807
David C Campbell was born Febr 26 1810.
Georgia.
The above is taken from the written record and spelled as it is in the
record. Leazean is spelled two ways in the record.
Now, to me... I'd be wondering why all the writing is the exact
same...wouldn't the handwriting or ink change with each birth? Maybe
not...thinking David wrote this on old book flyleaf...maybe
Aeneaz died 16 Dec 1828 & Eliza Ann Belt Campbell died 4 Jan 1853 in NC.
David lived in GA
The pension file is for MD...where Enos, etc served in the war.
The pension also says this was a 2nd marriage for Aeneas.

I may have "spoken" with you before, but at the time I didn't know for
"sure" that my Campbell line came from Loudoun Co. I found proof of that
last year in an old publication that said James Campbell and his wife
Elizabeth Eveland came from Loudoun Co. Some researchers have said that
they lived near Leesburg. Have you any James's in your info that might fit
with mine? He was born either 1783 or 1788. He married Elizabeth Eveland
in 1804 - so that would have him pretty young. They moved to Muskingum Co,
Ohio in the early 1820's. I have thought at times that a John was his
father - but I have no proof of that. His oldest son was William - so that
may have been his father's name - again no idea of how to connect. I don't
have many male Campbells in my family so I don't know if I could convince
anyone to do a DNA test - even if I pay. No one is as interested as I am.
Anyway, thanks for your time.

Maureen,
Don't know exactly where to start. There is a very old Hillsborough in
Orange Co, (Chapel Hill) that has historic markers about every fifty
feet going down the street. I expect that is the Hillsborough in
research. I can't remember Greensboro's name changes but it is possible.
My brickwall ancestor, Aeneas Campbell, Sr was born 1730 in ??? and died
1812 in Montgomery Co, MD. in 1757, he was the first sheriff of Loudoun
Co, VA. James Hamilton was also in the government and had business
dealing with Aeneas Sr. There is lots about both in The Historian's
Guide to Loudoun County, Virginia. Loudoun is a ferry ride from
Montgomery Co, MD. I have no records of marriages between a Campbell and
a Hamilton, at least not until next Saturday when my younger daughter is
marrying one. I really haven't looked. Aeneas Sr had a daughter Hester
that married Leven Covinton Beall in 1779 in Montgomery Co, NC. Aeneas
Jr born 1757 at Raspberry Plains in Leesburg, VA came to Iredell Co NC
in 1784. On a present day map, this looks like a long way BUT Aeneas
lived very near the county line with present day Davie Co, (then Rowan)
which is a small county which borders Forsyth and Yadkin which was also
a part of Stokes. Do you have another Aeneas? There was a Milton
Campbell that came from Stokes Co to Iredell/Davie area as the
postmaster at the County Line Post Office. I think he goes back to an
Archibald that is buries in Snow Creek Cemetery in Iredell.
Aeneas Sr was a Col in the Maryland Flying Camp. Aeneas Jr was and
Ensign. After the was a lot of his military unit moved down here with
families in tow that intermarried countless time. There are five Aeneas
descendants that have taken the DNA test. We have a marker that is
different from the most of the other Campbells, marker 26 has a value of
9. The most of the Campbells have a 11 or 12. Due to the intermarrying
of "the Maryland Colony" in Iredell Co, I am related to about all of the
group.

Check out Marylanders to Carolina by Peden on Google Books. There are two Campbells: Aeneas (Eneas/Enos) and Rebecca. Horatio Hamilton, uncle of John Campbell, is also listed.

Maureen,
My ancestor, Aeneas Campbell , was associated with Hamiltons, the
Bealls and came from Maryland to NC.
I have a question about your message. "Who went to Hillsborough (Later
Greensboro)". Are you saying he went to Hillsborough , then to
Greensboro, or that Hillsborough became Greensboro?
Has anybody done DNA testing?

One fathered an illegitimate son, and the other married, took in his brother's orphaned child, then died without issue. Court records are a bit unclear as to which brother did which, but the result was my ancestor, John Campbell, born September 10, 1775.

>> These Campbells appear to have been closely associated with Hamiltons and Bealls, who were from Calvert and Charles Counties in Maryland, beginning in the late 1600s.

>>> Hi all,
>>> I have traced my line back to a John Campbell in Henry Co, KY. There are very few Campbells in the area in 1810 and most at least are related. That group seems to have come from Frederick County, MD, based on a deed I found for John Campbell, who was administrator of his father Matthews estate. Matthew is listed as coming from Frederick Co MD. I think the John I can trace to is the SON of the John of that deed.
