I have been reading the Ice Cream Poll with great interest. My daughter's
birth family was Campbell from Missouri and Nevada. She just recently made
contact with her birth cousins, and they were astounded to see that she
loves mustard. They said it proves she is a real Campbell. ALL the
Campbells she descends from love mustard and will put it on everything.
Kelly even eats "wish" sandwiches--bread and mustard.

Have pity on us here in Scotland
searched for Butter Pecan to no avail
For years I have been a closet ice-cream eater, vanilla only
will now come out of the closet
My Campbell ancestor built in 1707 a large icehouse,
no longer in use... will go and eat a tub of ice-cream there today
and see if I can raise the ghosts of past Campbells...
so many questions to ask them

I have a brick wall in Andrew Wilson Campbell. He was born in Greenock, Scotland in 1875. He emigrated to the USA in about 1897 ( not confirmed) and married Elizabeth Malcolm in the Bronx in , I think 1898, they moved to philadelphia and there I found them on the 1900 census with a son Harold born April 1900. After that I lose them completely. I have searched Ancestry and I come up with a Harold b1900 who died in Ohio. How do I go about finding out more about that Harold. I would like to see if his parents were Elizabeth and Andrew. I cannot found any death record for Andrew or Elizabeth. How do I search records in the USA?

Roger, I appreciate your response. My James would only have been 5 years old at the time of the land patent. Was this James' father also named James? If so, then it's possible.

I thought since there is a discussion on Brcik Walls in NY I would add mine.
My late father-in-law was WILLIAM JACK CAMPBELL born probably Brooklyn NY 1920 died in Arizona 1987.
His father was a JOHN DANIEL CAMPBELL born 1881 in Charlestown MA ( according to his marriage record ) on his 1920 Brooklyn census he lists his birthplace as MA.
JOHN DANIEL CAMPBELL 1930 South Ozone Park Queens Census somelists his birthplace as Canada.
Both census records lsits his parents birthplace as Nova Scotia/Canada.
On his marriage record to JEANNIE ELIZABETH MARSLAND 1919 Brooklyn NY, his parents are listed as JOHN CAMPBELL and JANE MACDONALD.
JOHN D CAMPBELL and JEANNIE ELIZABETH MARSLAND CAMPBELL had 3 sons
WILLIAM JACK CAMPBELL b. 1920 d. 1987
JOHN D CAMPBELL JR b. 1924 d. in the early 1970's
DAVID R CAMPBELL b. 1930 ?
We believe DAVID's middle name may be ROSS. The middle name ROSS was handed down to one of my husband's brothers'. It is the maiden name of JEANNIE ELIZABETH MARSLAND's mother, she was JEANNIE ROSS from Scotland. She married CLARENCE MARSLAND of NY.
I am always looking for others researching this line. I have had a number of researchers in MA do some records searches but as of now they have found no information.

Those of you looking for an Alexander Campbell in Scotland may possibly be interested in these, all in Argyll:
My Alexander Campbell was born in Muckairn in 1796. I am pretty sure his parents were Alexander Campbell and Sarah Campbell. No proof yet, though.
Other siblings in the family seem to have been: No name, John (1792), Dugald (1794), Ann (Nanny), Angus (1806), and Archibald (1808). Any of these could have migrated to Canada or USA.
My Alexander stayed in Scotland and married Isabella McIntosh of Ardincaple in 1822. Their children were: Alexander (1823), Cathrine, Mary(?), Duncan (1828), John, Angus (c1831), John, Archibald. Of these, Alexander, Duncan and Angus remained in Scotland. However, the second John (1837) or Archibald (1840) could have started Campbell families elsewhere.
In this generation, Alexander (1823) married Mary ?? about 1855 and they had: Sarah, Alexander (1858), Jessie and Isabella. No idea where they all dispersed.
Brother Duncan (1828) married Catharine MacDougal(d) in 1859. They had Mary, Duncan (1861), Isabella and Catherine. Son Duncan left Scotland under something of a cloud and is said to have been murdered in Australia... or maybe Africa... or maybe America! If he had progeny, we don't know about it and have found no trace of him. So far.
Brother Angus (1831) married Mary Swan in 1861 and had Angus, Annie, Isabella and Mary. Angus presumably died young. Mary did migrate to the US, where she served as an army nurse in World War I, and died at a VA hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Angus (daddy) married a second time, to Mary King, in 1890. They had Janet and Angus (1892). This Angus apparently migrated to Indiana and had a family. Is anyone out there part of this family?
Well, that's the best I can do today for migrating Alexander Campbells and their siblings.

This particular CAMPBELL gentleman is our brickwall.
We don't have anything conclusive for origin...prior to 1796.
Rumor of a father for him...Robert CAMPBELL, but so far
....I have found no evidence in VA to support this story.

......Robert CAMEL, no info other than a GA 1796 Tax List
......John CAMPBELL, referred to but not on the Tax Lists
Again...Elizabeth (BELINDEN) CAMPBELL is our brickwall.
I've found lots of general info for her family surname...
but absolutely nothing about her parents or siblings.
Charles CAMPBELL "Snr" married at least twice:
m. June 1800, Mrs. Richard (Milly HORN) BAILEY
and this marriage is recorded in Oglethorpe Co., GA

Hello Owen,
Your Hugh Argyll Campbell interested me. I have two Hugh Argyle
Campbells
(Argyle is the older spelling) in my genealogy lists. The first Hugh
Argyle
Campbell (my ancestor) was born 27-Jul-1744 in Londonderry, NH,
married Mary
Smith, and died 4-Feb-1810 in Scipio, NY. He had a son Hugh Argyle
Campbell
(not my ancestor) born 14-May-1783 probably in Bedford, NH, married
Margaret
Mathers, and died 23-Aug-1861 in Steuben, OH. If you believe one of
these
Hugh Argyle Campbells is your brick wall then go to my website at
www.georgescampbell.com [1] and click on genealogy. You will get a
website with
about 500 relatives of these Campbells. We have about 1200 but don't
list
living relatives. However, if you believe your are related, or only
interested, then please contact me.

I have a Robert Campbell b. abt 1718 in Ireland and died abt 1797 in NC. He
married Margaret Kirkpatrick in Augusta Co, VA. Some of the children were
Nancy, Margaret, John R and William - most born in VA. Margaret died in MO and
John R. died in KY. If anyone has info on any of these folks, would greatly
appreciate it. My direct ancestor was Nancy who died in TN.

I loved Butter Pecan as a kid. Haven't had some in quite a while. I'll have to go to the store and have my son try some and see if the gene passed on.
C J,
We share the same James Campbell from Muskingum. I think you gave me that info a couple of years ago. Since then, I've found burial sites at Wayside Cemetary near Barron, WI for Harrison Campbell (05/01/1847 - 05/30/1930) and his wife Frances (1854-1930). I can't remember off the top of my head which of James' sons was Harrison's father and I don't have the files handy.
Not sure if Harrison was in your branch of James' children (my line draws down from Jacob) so I thought you'd be interested in some supplemental info. I also have a list of Harrison's children if you don't have and are interested.
I'm off to Roundy's to get me some Butter Pecan :-}

May I add my own Brick Wall to the List? I known both the frustration of the Wall and the elation of breaking through it. Perhaps someone has a tidbit of information that might help me break through my Campbell Wall:
???? Alexander (or Elexander) CAMPBELL was b. about 1775-1780, probably in Scotland but possibly in NY. He married Anne (or Anna or Ann) Stewart who was b. in Scotland. They had several children including Henrietta, b. 1819, ?and Catharine, b. 1829. Their other children?MAY include?Fanny b. abt 1808,?William b. 1814-1818, and James b. abt. 1821. Census records for Catharine and Henrietta indicate they lived in Delaware (probably Delaware Co., NY) prior to moving to Chemung County about 1838. The 1820 census lists an age-appropriate Alexander Campbell with age-appropriate wife and children in Stamford, Delaware Co., NY. On the same page and just 2 lines away was Colin Campbell, b. abt. 1783 in Glenorchy, son of Alexander Campbell. Any ideas would be very welcome. I'm?only a couple of hours away?from Delaware Co, NY,?for vacation for the next 10 days and hope someone can suggest?appropriate places to?look. Thanks for any suggestions!

Ice cream....all flavors...half of the 1/2 gallon in one bowl.
Definitely not chintzy in how much they dish up. *S*
YES, our all time favorite is.......BUTTER PECAN. *S*
Group 40, # 72715, Charles CAMPBELL "Snr", b. abt 1730-1735
"Family Tradition"...b. VA, but could have been our immigrant,
and our tradition is that this is an Argyll line.
This particular CAMPBELL gentleman is our brickwall.
We don't have anything conclusive for origin...prior to 1796.
Rumor of a father for him...Robert CAMPBELL, but so far
....I have found no evidence in VA to support this story.
m. abt. 1755, Elizabeth BELINDEN (BELLENDEN, BALANTINE)
...she died before 1800, probably in Oglethorpe Co., GA
...mother of:
.....Charles CAMPBELL, b. bef. 1760 - poss. 1819 GA
.........m. unknown
.....Levi CAMPBELL, b. bef. 1760 - d. 1817 LA
.........m. Sarah WATKINS, b. 1763 Johnston Co., NC
.....Lorany CAMPBELL, b. abt 1770 NC - d. AL-MS
.........m. 1st, Benjamin WATKINS, brother of Sarah
.........m. 2nd, Sherwood DAVIS, brother of Aaron
Possibly also mother of:
......Keziah (Kissiah) CAMPBELL, b. abt 1774 NC - d. GA
.........1st wife of Moses WATKINS, brother of Sarah & Ben
Other names found with this Charles "Snr" are:
......Robert CAMEL, no info other than a GA 1796 Tax List
......John CAMPBELL, referred to but not on the Tax Lists
Again...Elizabeth (BELINDEN) CAMPBELL is our brickwall.

While on vacation, I visited Luray Caverns and learned of its Campbell connection, being co-discovered by a Campbell.? I am going to write an article on it for the Clan Campbell Society Journal and was wondering if there were any descendants on the list or someone with a connection to that family.? If so, please contact me at paulcampbellnj(a)aol.com.? Thanks!
Davie,
Hey. Well, I know my husband (the blood-line Campbell) orders Butter
Pecan ice cream sometimes. In our family, it's a joke about not
getting between a Campbell male and his ice cream, no matter the
flavor. I mean these Campbell guys don't know the meaning of
moderation when they serve themselves a bowl of the cold sweet stuff! :-)
So maybe it really IS genetic.
