Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

In 1776, KY county was formed by VA...so KY was at that time part of
Virginia.
Kentucky seperated from Virgina in 1792.
Cousins: This is as progress was made in the Foemation of new
Jurisdictons
BUT where so maby researchers find their Brick walls,is that
in tracing from them selves back tracking their Ancestors, to
Ky, West Va, Ohio, Ill, Ind, Mich & Wisc. THEY find little or NO
information as to where they CAME from???, The REASON,
is that the Official Jurisdiction for the area that became those States WAS
Henrico Shire to Henrico County, and that being the Official Jurisdiction, IF
there are no Records in the Henrico County Archives, Prior to 1728 When the
First County <Goochland County was formed From Henrico County, NOW Here is A
real Brick Wall Builder< Goochland 1728 Formed from Henrico County. ALL Records
were destroyed by Fire JUNE 1829: Other records were lost during the Civil WAR,
1865
NOW when a Family researcher traces their Family Back to WHAT IS NOW, Ind,
Ill, Ky, Ohio, West Va, from 1728 untill 1744
The Jurisdiction was Goochland, County Va. & Those County Records were
Destroyed, THERE may be SOME kind of records for those areas localy BUT the
Official Record Location would have been Goochland County Virginia
Many Researchers do know when these Jurisdictions Changed
and know where to Check , IF there is a Record for that Area
Covering the period that their Ancestors Settled THERE
in stead Asumeing that Their Ancestor Arived at a Northern Port
When the Ancestor Came into the US IN Va, Another point over lookrd is In
Pensylvania, People Look at Phila. for Migrant Landings when there were MANY Pa
arivals at Chestor, PA instead Phila. PA CUZ A T <atpowelljr(a)aol.com>

Brenda, it would be crazy not to read your posts. The land boundaries
changed often in the early times of America. Kentucky was once a part of
Virginia (see below), and may have been connected with other states also.
I don't get to read all the Campbell digests, just been too busy, but I do
look for certain names.

I happened to have in front of me, a book called "The Argyle Patent & its
Early Settlers".
Your Loudon ancestors are listed in this book.
They are connected to Lot 117, which was granted to a Janet Ferguson in
1764.
Your Joseph Loudon of Argyle, executor of the estate of Joseph Barber, Sold
1/2 lot 117 (full lot = 237.5 acres ) to Archibald Gillis for $550.
Barber's land sold to pay estate Expenses. (Neil McConnelee was another
executor)
Page 305 shows:
Joseph Louden probably came to Argyle from Salem or Jackson. In 1789,
Robert Lowdon owned land in the Turner Patent, and a Loudon family later
lived on the South side of the Battenkill, across from Fitch's Point.
Joseph Loudon, 1766-1842, and his wife Jane McConnell, 1773- 1844, are
buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Argyle (NY). Their children were
presumably John (1801-1846); Joseph (1806-1881), who married Eliza
McDougall, and William (1807-1874), who married Nancy Todd. (Gibson, 121,
268,123; ACR 27, 57)
Documentation sources:
GIBSON: Gibson, James, Author; Hill, William H., editor, HISTORY OF
WASHINGTON COUNTY, NY: THE GIBSON PAPERS. Ft Edward, NY: Washington county
Historical society 1956.
ACR: Cemetery Records, Township of Argyle, Washington county, NY. Indexed
and compiled by Charles B Moore, Queensbury, NY: Historical Data Services
1993.
Other Louden, Lowdens mentioned: Louden, Jane p 305, 308: John, 305, 308:
Joseph 304, 305, 308: Lovina 308: Mary 151: William 305.
Lowden, Mary 227, 289: Robert 305.
Mary Louden (p 151) married John STEWART, son of Samuel (b 1770 Scotland- d
1850 NY)& Elizabeth FALKENER (1774-1886) Stewart. Samuel went from Scotland
to Ireland where he married Elizabeth. They emigrated to America & settled
in Argyle abt 1807.
The above is in notes on Lot 54.
Mary Louden p 227: Children of Andrew Haggart Jr are listed w/whom they
married. One son Theodore 1837-1863), married Mary Jane Lowden. No other
info given.
The above were in notes on lot 86.
The above Mary Jane Louden Stewart of page 151 was also mentioned on page
289 in reference to lot 110.
Your Joseph is on 304, 305, as mentioned above... Page 308 just refers you
back to the other pages for information because your Loudens were involved
in sales pertaining to lot 119.
Hope this helps. I don't see where Jean Campbell connects to
Joseph..Unless prior to the above mentioned.

Hi All --
This is a long shot - but here it is again :-)
I'm looking for information on Jean Campbell and her husband, John Louden.
Jean was b. 1720 in Ireland and John Louden was born about 1716 also in
Ireland. Jean's parents were John Campbell and Agnes Allen. John and
Jean's son was John Louden, born 1740 in probably Londonderry, Ireland.
John married Ann and his child Joseph was my immigrating ancestor - he
settled in ARgyle, New York.
I've found information on ancestry.com and on familysearch.org that confirms
all this, but I don't have documentation or primary sources. If I can find
that for certain, then I will be well on my way to finding my Loudon /
Loudoun / Lothian ancestors in Scotland.
Any suggestions / thoughts for me?
Many thanks,
Sue

Margie,
Thank you so much! Although I did have some of this information, I didn't
have it all :-)
Sue
ps Can you determine who Joseph Barber was married to? He lists Loudon's
as nieces and nephews, but I can't find the exact connection. I appreciate
your time and help :-)

I always look at all the Campbell posts. My grandfather came to South Africa, but 2 of his brothers went to Canada and one to the USA - I have found him on the 1900 census in Philadelphia with his wife and infant son, but then he disappears. I am hoping that one day I will. Find him through someone. His name was Andrew Wilson Campbell b May 1875. He married Elizabeth Malcolm and they had a son Harold in April 1900. The 2 brothers that went to Canada have well documented families, but now we are trying to find out what happened to Andrew and his descendants..
Best wishes

While most of my Campbells hail from Pennsylvania and Ohio...I still read your posts with interest. Somwhere, my great-great grandfather Bales M Campell's brother David settled, and I would very much like to find him if possible.
So don't give up (and don't give up hope!)...when you post, you never know when something you post will give someone else just the clue they need to finish their work.

This is probably not yours but I will post just in case. There is a AW
Campbell in Indiana, born in Pa or so the census says and he is about the right
age but he has no family. This is the 1910 census I was viewing.

Diane and others,
As you post your requests for information it would be of very much help
if you also listed approximate birth and death dates for your ancestor.
There are so many Davids and other common Campbell names that it is
difficult to distinguish among them without dates.

Now would be as good as a time as any to ask again if any one has a
Mary Campbell born in PA who married a Captain Samuel Elliott before
moving to Ohio circa 1800. They were one of the first residents of
Licking County, OH. And yes, all posts from whereever or whomever
are read with great anticipation.

I would like to know if anyone benefited from the post I posted. Is
anyone from the Kentucky Campbells. If there is no one but me it would
be futile to continue posting. I was hoping we could share information.

Hi All --
This is a long shot - but here it is again :-)
I'm looking for information on Jean Campbell and her husband, John Louden. Jean was b. 1720 in Ireland and John Louden was born about 1716 also in Ireland. Jean's parents were John Campbell and Agnes Allen. John and Jean's son was John Louden, born 1740 in probably Londonderry, Ireland. John married Ann and his child Joseph was my immigrating ancestor - he settled in ARgyle, New York.
I've found information on ancestry.com and on familysearch.org that confirms all this, but I don't have documentation or primary sources. If I can find that for certain, then I will be well on my way to finding my Loudon / Loudoun / Lothian ancestors in Scotland.
Any suggestions / thoughts for me?
Many thanks,
Sue

Hello List,
Do anyone on this list have William Cunningham Campbell and Agnes Shaw in
their tree Please?
I found that they were living at 2, Burnside Place,
Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. in the 1901 census. William and Agnes
were married on 30 Dec 1898 at 4, Burnside Place,
Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland.
But in the 1901 Census their was still only William and Agnes they had no
children with them.
Do anyone know if they did have any children Please?
Thank you in advance
Kind Regards
Pamela J Groves
