Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Please read what A.T. has to say, by reading his message
from the subject list. Consider his age and what he has
learned on his own. At first I question it, but he maybe be on
a fixed income, or maybe he dosen't have any close family.
So before we say any more, give him a chance. Besides
isn't this space supose to be for geneology purposes only.

OOps
found in The Red Book of Perthshire
that John Campbell managed to escape after his capture
at the battle of Preston 1715
before being transported he escaped to France.
With the help of his uncle the Earl of Breadalbane he obtained a pardon
Returned and married Katherine Smythe,
which makes sense as David Smythe is also mentioned in the will.

AT,
People on AOL can not send messages to Rootsweb in plain text if they
have one of the older versions (Version 5.0 or Previous). You are
using Version 4, thusly you are not able to get a message to the
list. To be able to post a message you will have to upgrade your AOL
to version 9.0. Sorry that is the only way for you to send a message
to the list
Regards,
Tom Hesler, Campbell List Manager

Hallo JA Campbell,
thank you for the info
and the kind offer to look further for me.
what I have is that
John Campbell was captured at the battle of Preston, Lincolnshire England
11th November 1715
He was then sentenced to 7 years in Maryland.
I should imagine that he may not have been shipped out until 1716
My problem is that his second child David Campbell 1721-1806
known as the Big Doctor and settled in Jamaica
never married.
This information comes from Johns will 1788
David was born 5 years after the sentence
So John must have paid a bribe?
to return home to Scotland before his sentence was up.
I am trying to find the birth of his daughter Helen
was she born before John is captured or when he returns?
I really want to find if John married Catharine McClaren
yours,
Ian
Hello Listers
Would anyone on the LIST be researching James CAMPBELL and his wife Catharine SUTHERLAND.
James and Catharine married at Dyke, Morayshire, Scotland January 1848. They are listed at Nairn, Nairnshire, Scotland in the 1851 Census with a daughter Sophia aged 1. Two further Children, were born to this couple at Nairn, Alexander in 1851 and William in 1854.
I have not been able to find any further trace of this couple in Scotland's census records after 1851 or births of any further children after 1854. It is possible they may have emmigrated to either America, Canada or Australia. Other family members are known to have emmigrated to these countries so it is possible they did so as well.
If anyone may have James & Catharine in your family tree I would love to hear from you.
Regards
Lynne - Australia

Several years ago I listed all the Civil War Vets in Amherst Co VA and
Nelson Co VA, that were named Campbell, and I will also send to you that
list.
My ancestor was Edward Stephen Campbell and he was in the Civil War, he did
not survive the War, he is buried in Charleston, he died of Typhoid. He
left a widow and kids in Tempernace, Amherst Co VA. He was the son of James
W. Campbell, s/o John and Frances, s/o George and Caty.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin
End of snip...
Did Edward Stephen marry and have children? Stephen is a seldom used name in
the Campbell line. I have and elder Stephen born in PA February 1825
(Married Mary McCLelland? McClain?). Some records show that he has family
from Maryland some say PA. I have lost him somewhere around Eau Claire WI. I
believe his father may have been George but cannot prove that. George
supposedly came with family for PA (and here is where the Maryland and PA
confusion comes into play). I have no real information on George. Some
records indicate that he may have been in Indiana, then Iowa, then possibly
to Wisconsin where Stephen and his family lived in Vernon WI, then Stephen
went to Eau Claire and from there he disappeared but several children are
recorded there. Variations of Talbot, Talbert, Albert are used in that
family as is Steven, Stephen)
Thank you also for the reference list.

Hello Eddie,
You and I are related, we both share the same George Campbell 1720-1791 (m.
Caty) as an ancestor.
I am familiar with your ancestry here, and I am going to send to you
directly a few files which are about your people.
Several years ago I listed all the Civil War Vets in Amherst Co VA and
Nelson Co VA, that were named Campbell, and I will also send to you that
