Hi,
Thanks. I only entered the DNA discussion that was started by someone else.
I have my Agnew documentation with complete citations back to whenever.
The Agnew's of Lochnaw have complete Peerage documentation.
I have all anyone cold need on that side of my family and my Campbell
ancestors are on that side of the family. I have very good Robbins information
back into the early 1700's. I wish that I had more.
Robert earlier mentioned that we need to focus on true Genealogy. I have
about as good research on that as one can have on the one side and wish I could
connect the Robbins side to wherever my group came from. I may use DNA one
day.
I will add more to the discussion on Agnew, Kings of Scotland, Campbell
connection later. Most Campbell's are connected to these kings and especially
Robert I Bruce as direct descendents. I have the citations to prove that and
no DNA is needed.
Thanks,
'Jimmie Robbins

I agree with Robert Lee: All I'm looking for now is how my Campbell ancestor came into Kentucky. All I know FOR SURE about him is that he was William Campbell (1780-1820),he married Nancy Couch, and is supposed to be buried in Perry County Kentucky----but where is the grave? Anything before that is pure speculation.

Dear All,
To those who are hoping to establish that they are descended from the
kings of Scotland I should point out that their line of ancestry back
at about 1400 would consist of rather more than a million persons. It
is true to say we are all related to everyone else. I would suggest
they take a deep breath have a cold shower and get on with some real
genealogy.

Hi! I don't know if this has been previously posted but for those Virginia
researchers out there, here's a link for road orders in Virginia that run
back to the 1700s.

Hi,
I am the Edgecombe Co., NC Robbins.
My line moved to Mississippi pre 1850. I do not know much about the Robbins
beyond Edgecomb County.
The Line that I can trace to whenever is the Agnew Line. My Grandmother was
an Agnew of the Agnews of Lochnaw, the Hereditary Sheriff's of Galloway. They
held that office as long as there was such an Office. They continued at
Lochnaw Castle as a family home from the 1460's until 1997. There was a brief
time when it was used as an RAF Hospital during WWII. They were keepers of the
old Lochnaw Castle in the mid 1360's.
The Kennedy line came into the Agnew family beginning with the daughter of
Lady Mary Stewart and Kennedy in the early 1400's and several Agnew-Kennedy
marriages as time progressed.
The Agnews married many descendants of Robert I beginning with a child of
Robert II's daughter Lady Mary Stewart and Sir James Kennedy, of Dunure, Younger.
The Campbell connection was when Lady Isabel Campbell, daughter of Archibald
Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll, married Gilbert Kennedy, 4th Lord Kennedy,2nd
Earl of Cassillis (Gilbert was a descendant of Robert I through Lady Mary
Stewart). This Campbell-Kennedy resulted in their G Granddaughter, Margaret
Kennedy's Marriage to Sir Patrick Agnew, of Lochnaw 1st Bt, 8th Sheriff of Galloway.
This marriage brought the Campbell line into the Agnew family. There were
many marriages of descendants of King Robert the Bruce into the Agnew Family
from 1450 until this in the early 1600's. This Campbell line was one of those
and I might say that it was a good line.
The records of the Agnew family were well kept in Scotland and in America
after my Agnew line came here in 1717. I wish that I knew as much about the
Robbins line.
I do not believe that my Agnew people here in America knew of the Campbell
connection until I came upon it.
Thanks,
Jimmie Robbins

I have a little information on Middlesex county NJ Campbell's. These
married into the Bloomfield, Clawson, Martin, and Freeman families for a
few. I don't have a lot, but will share what I do have. I have not found a
connection to these family lines....but since one is an Ellis Campbell...I
kept the info.

Hi,
I am a Caampbell descendent. The last male Ancestor in my line was Archibald
Campbell, 2nd Earl of Argyll. He died at the battle at Flodden field
September 9, 1513. My next Campbell was his daughter Lady Isabel Campbell.
Would I be able to see my Campbell connection with a DNA Test? Also would I
be able to see the Robert the Bruce connection through the DNA test.
The Campbells who descend from Sir Duncan Campbell, 1st Lord Campbell OF
LOCHAW and Lady Marjorie Stewart are descendants of the Stewart King of Scotland,
Robert II Stewart, King of Scotland and His Grandfather, Robert I Bruce, King
of Scotland.
For that matter, those who descend from these would also descend from almost
every King Scotland ever had, even before it was called Scotland.
Thank You,
Jimmie Robbins

Has anyone tried the DNA test to connect? It will, if everyone did like
they were supposed to do, point the way to direct the search.

Hello Campbell researchers,
The following was extracted from A HISTORY OF MONMOUTH AND OCEAN COUNTIES
by
Edwin Salter; Bayonne NJ; 1890; GENEALOGICAL RECORD of the First Settlers of
Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and Their Descendants -
p. xv:
CAMPBELL - John CAMELL's ear mar was recorded Feb., 1687, in Middletown
Town
Book. He was witness to will of Thomas COMBS of Freehold, 1723. In 1690
Archibald CAMPBELL, "workman," bought land of Peter BURY. In 1701 he
claimed,
in right of his father, Lord Neil CAMPBELL, 1,350 ACRES. There were two
Archibald CAMPBELLs; one brought over by John CAMPBELL as servant for John
DOBIE about 1684; the other was son of Lord Neil CAMPBELL, who came over
with
his father 1685. The first named Archibald d. 1702 and appointed John
CAMPBELL
his heir and executor. The son of Lord Neil returned to England and was
known
as Dr. Archibald CAMPBELL. He became an eminent divine, Bishop of the
Episcopal Church in Scotland 1711, and died 1744.
The name of Archibald Campbell is on at least 4 tombstones at
> the Friendship cemetery in western Atlantic County, NJ.
I am not related to this person, so I have no additional info. I suggest
that you search on google or rootsweb archives to find more info if this is
your ancestor.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin
