Campbell born April 22, 1812 Tennessee buried in Old Oak Grove Cemetery, Union County, Mississippi
with his wife Elizabeth A M (Liza) Choate May 12, 1823 she was from someplace in Virigina I can find no information on her either.

Subject: [Campbell] John Mathews Campbell - NY / Missouri
John Mathews Campbell, the manager of the United States Barytes Company, was
born in NY City, 18 Jan 1868. The same city was the birthplace of his
father, Wm Campbell (son of another John Campbell), a mechanic of Irish
descent. Wm Campbell went into a small mercantile business when he reached
manhood & remained in that line of work until a few years before his death,
in 1901. He was married in 1867 to Hanna Ann GALLEGHAR, of Brooklyn, and
John M. Campbell is the eldest of their three children. The two daughters
are now married, Mary Abigail to Mr. George NOONAN, and Helen Caroll to Mr
J. F. McLAUGHT. Wm Campbell died in 901, but his wife is still living and
makes her home with her different children. She is a member of the Catholic
church. Her husband was a Presbyterian.
John M. Campbell grew up in NY City and attended the public schoold of that
place, graduating from the grammar school in 1882. When he finished this
course he was apprenticed to a jeweler but later left the business to clerk
in the hardware house of H. T. Patterson & company. He remained there some
time and then went into an insurance and brokerage house, where he stayed
until his marriage, in 1894.
At age twenty-six, Mr. Campbell was married to Miss Catherine L. FARRELL of
Rochester, NY. Five children were born of their union & three of them are
living (in 1912): Lawrence John, Raymond Leslie & Arthur Edwin. After h is
marriage Mr. Campbell went into a stock brokerage company, where he was
bookkeeper and had opportunity to make money on the stock market. After
leaving this firm, he spent two years away from business, traveling with his
wife. He is the holder of the greater part of the stock in the McLaughlin
Press of Buffalo, NY. He is secretary and treasurer of this firm and his
borther-in-law, Mr. McLaughlin is president.
Mr. Campbell had invested considerable money in southeastern Missouri and
was sufficiently interested that he came to the region at the request of the
board of directors and took charge of the U.S.Barytes Co, at Tiff. His
family accompanied him here and are living in Tiff at present.
Mr. Campbell is a Republican in politics, as his father before him. His
church is the Episcopal and he is a Mason of the thirty-second degree.

In the year 1895 a veteran was filing a claim, and made the below statement:
"Dr. Campbell of Shannon Co., MO who began treating me in
1868 for about a month, he is now deceased."
This man is not related to me, but perhaps someone knows who this Dr.
Campbell of Missouri is, who was practising in 1868, but was dead prior to
1895.

Hi All: I am going to try this again and see if anyone is out there that knows of this family.

Subject: William Campbell b. 1708 or 1718
To: campbell(a)rootsweb.com
Hi: I am seeking information on William Campbell b. 1708 in Londonderry Ireland. He married Elizabeth Lettice in 1729. He was the father of the following children:
William Campbell b. 2 Aug 1736 in Georgetown ME married Martha Griffin 20 Aug 1764.
John Campbell b.10 Aug 1743 in Georgetown ME and married Nancy Ann Drummond 30 Dec 1773.
Agnes Campbell b. 8 Oct 1733 in Georgetown ME and married David liver on 13 Dec 1754.
Daniel Campbell b.9 Sept 1745 in Georgetown ME and d. 6 March 1830.
Martha Campbell b. 21 April 1741 in Georgetown ME and married Nathaniel Wyman on 24 Jan 1765.
Elizabeth Campbell b. 2 March 1738-1739 in Georgetown ME.
Mary Campbell b. 15 Jan 1730 in Boston, MA married to Alexander or John Todd.
I am looking for any Campbells that are related to his children. In some of the information I find that Williams date of birth was 1708 and in other information it was 1718. I have copies of the childrens Vital Records from Georgetown ME but none of them have any information on the parents just their names. William Campbell b. 1736 was my 4th Great Grandfather and I am trying to document who his parents were and their vital information.
I would appreciate hearing from any one who has information on this family.
Thank You
Veronica
Hi
I am searching for any other Campbell family researchers who may be descendants of the same Campbell family as mine.
My GG Grandparents were JOHN CAMPBELL and ANN MATTHEWS. We have found Ann Matthew's family ancestry but so far have hit a gigantic "brick wall" in finding John Campbell's parents or exact place of birth.
The information I have so far is;
JOHN CAMPBELL b. about 1819 - BORN MORAYSHIRE (POSSIBLY ELGIN) but parents and place of birth unknown. Died 07 April 1847 at Elgin.
John married ANN MATTHEWS (daughter of JAMES MATTHEWS & JEAN SIMPSON) in Elgin on 25 May 1839. Ann was bapt. 18 Oct. 1814 at Elgin and died at 119 Dundee St., Edinburgh, aged 79 yrs.
JOHN CAMPBELL - died 07 April 1847, aged 28 years, House Carpenter in Elgin, and was interred in the Cathedral Church yard, Elgin, on 9th April 1847.
Children of John & Ann were:
1. JAMES CAMPBELL b. 07 March 1840 Elgin. Died 10 Feb. 1904, Edinburgh. James married ANN McPHERSON 16 Jan 1866, Carse of Ardersier, County of Inverness.
2. JOHN CAMPBELL b. 15 May 1841, Elgin. died 04 May 1870, New Elgin. Married but wife unknown.
3. ANN CAMPBELL b. 15 Jan 1843, Nairn, Nairn.
4. ROBERT ALEXANDER b. 01 Sept. 1844, Forres, Moray. Married BARBARA SMART on 03 Jan 1868, Leslie, Fife, Scotland.
5. WILLIAM FERGUSON CAMPBELL b. about 1847/1848 in Elgin. His birth was never registered but it is believed he was born very close to the time of his father's death on 07 April 1848 at Elgin. William married ROBINA SNADDON/SNEDDON in Adelaide, South Australia on 25 May 1868.
William Ferguson Campbell was my Great Grandfather who emigrated to Australia on the ship "Norman Morrison", sailing from Plymouth on 05 may 1865 and arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia on the 21 August 1865.
In the 1841 census the family were in Robertson's Close, Elgin:
John Campbell/20/joiner/Yes
Ann Campbell/20/Yes
James Campbell/1/Yes
N K Campbell/infant/Yes
Jane Matthay/15/F[emale] S[servant/Yes
Flora McBain/56/Ag[ricultural] Lab[ourer]/No
It is believed that John Campbell had a brother ALEXANDER CAMPBELL who married ANN WINK, daughter of
JOHN WINK & JANET DOWNIE.
If you are able to help in any way, or can put me in touch with other researchers who may also be a descendant of this same family, I would be very grateful.
Kind regards
Lynne Price

Hi Lillly;
I'm so happy to welcome you back to the list! You've been such a help in untangling the Campbell's of Amherst/Nelson County. It's great to hear from you. Phyllis Pengilly in CA
Hello to all,
I don't have Quaker ancestors, but wanted to share with you all, that in
Bedford Co VA there was a sizable QUAKER community.
I happen to know of several families (not Campbell) there who left VA to
settle in OH in the 1803 time frame, in a Quaker community founded in Ohio.
I study the Campbell families in Amherst Co VA and so far I have not come
across any Quaker presence there, but in nearby Bedford Co VA there were
many Quakers.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin

OK, I try this every few months or so.I guess it is about time again.I will start with my grandmother. Sarah CAMPBELL Strickland. Her father was Archie CAMPBELL. born-2/5/1876, Dallas County Alabama. He died 12/17/1956,Dallas County ,Alabama. His wife was Bessie Inez Day. She was born 8/7/1892, Dallas County, Alabama and died 5/10/1957, Dallas County Alabama.Archies father was John King CAMPBELL, born 1832 Dallas County, Alabama and died 9/17/1891(buried at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery, near Selma, Alabama, Dallas County. John King CAMPBELL's wife was Hannah Carter Milling. She was born 12/11/1848 Plantersville, Dallas County, Alabama. She died 12/14/1903, Dallas County Alabama.John King (sometimes referred to as Black Jack) CAMPBELL-father to John King CAMPBELL, was born 1803-Jefferson, TENNESSEE. He died 8/- -/1851, Dallas County Alabama. He was married to Elizabeth Anne Roundtree, from South Carolina.Do any of these names sound at all familiar to any of you??
....you know you are addicted when you have traced your ancestral lines all the way back to Adam and Eve, have it fully documented, and still don't want to quit.....

Thanks. Not them. They were born and died in Albemarle Co VA. Should you
see them around, please let me know. Many in the New Bern group were Quaker
and were at Aversboro or Snow Hill. My guess is that the Joseph Campbell
you write of that went to Indiana, probably helped in establishment of a new
Quaker community there.

Does anyone have the Joseph CAMPBELL line ( late 1800's) located in Albemarle Co., VA?
We need to know of documented references and proofs for this line.
Thanks very much for the lookup,

No relation that I know of to Wm P Campbell's family.
Oh, those file numbers at LDS Family history site...those are the cd/film
numbers. Used to be that the cd would refer you to the film, page number.
You would then order the film and look up the information. If the number
started with an M (M1200559)for example...it was a marriage record. Many
were submissions by researchers & family researchers...and not always with
documentation. Good reference point, but not set in stone. I will
sometimes go to the site to see if they have anything, then check
Ancestry..then the internet...sometimes it helps, many times it does not pan
out.

They are numbers from http://www.familysearch.org (LDS website).
The reliability of these files is sometimes not real good. I have been
trying to find info on this line since A T listed them. Have not found
anything except a bit on Audley/Edley in census.
I don't know if these are related to Ellis Campbell b 1804 in VA or
not...but Ellis did name his 2nd born son James Mehlander (called Mel by
family)Campbell. Have been banging my head on this brick wall for
years..thought the middle name might help...so far, nothing much.
Also, it is said (it's on Clan Campbell NA site) that a James Campbell
married an Elizabeth Mecklander about 1770 in VA...I find nothing on this.

Hi,
I've been trying to follow the recent Campbell postings to see if there are
any connections but so far there isn't.
My question is what is the meaning of these references to 'Compact Discs'
and Pin #?
I don't understand, could you please explain?
Theresa
