I was told a fascinating story on a compote that was handed down to me. It came from Scotland,to County Armagh,Northern Ireland, to America in 1848 with my 2nd gr-grandfather, Patrick Campbell, son of John Campbell, a 21 yr. British Army vet.
This compote has been passed down through the generations, and a little background on this story, and then what I found out.
This was told through the years it was gotten in a raid or skirmish during the Scottish Revolution. I believe this. Just the story that was told fits. As I believe I know where it was gotten. Only 3 families would have had their own glass at that time. The Stuarts and Bruces(My Mother's side LOL) and the Frasers.
The compote has a distinction..will tell you about it.
It possibly came over from France. All of the above families I mentioned lived and had ties to France. But here's the kicker..
Yes it was made 1250-1350..but in Venice,Italy,as France did not have it's own glassmakers then,or so I am told.
It is also one of a very few still clear. A great number are broken or in dumps or ruins purple or green.
A real family heirloom....

Yes, there are Alabama Campbell researchers. But we think our Julia was
left behind by the mother ship. No info regarding her has ever been found other
than what follows below.
I'm looking for Julia Campbell born in Georgia, but married Zed McMath and
moved to Clay County, AL where they raised their family. Julia Ann is my
great-great-grandmother. According to one Census, her father (name unknow) was
born in VA.
Julia Ann Campbell 6/10/1832 (GA) - 7/8/1904 (AL). Married Zedekiah McMath
12/6/1846 in Buena Vista, Marion County, GA. She and Zed are buried at
Tallasahatchie Cemetery in Sycamore, Talladega County, AL. Before moving to
Alabama they lived in Calhoun, Henry and Schley Counties, GA. They had apparently
settled in Ellerville for some time before coming to Alabama. Most of their
children were born there and in Americus, GA. Their children were John
Thomas, Elizabeth, Wiliam Wesley, Indiana, Sally, Sasea, Earnest Virginia (My
great-grandmother), Elijah Zedikiah, Alma Mae "Babe".
No one in family knows where the Earnest came from in my grandmother's name.
Also not clear if spelled Earnest or Ernest, but wonder if it could be a
clue as to Julia's father or maybe a brother. Some say, Julia's full name is
Julia Ann Earnest Campbell. At this time I haven't seen the documentation
supporting that.
Hoping against hope that will will stir up a relative.
Laura in Alabama
Pam, I am tracing lCampbells also - I lam a native of Ala. My Campbell line
goes back to a John Campbell w/a half brother (same mother-diff father) whose
name was Hugh Young. I have hit more brick walls than I knew existed.
If any of this strikes a note, let me know and we can examine further.

The picture of the headstone is posted as a jpg, you should be able to open it, I really don't know if that will be much help or not, there are other Campbells buried here, though they are about 40 yrs later in dob's, they could possibly be daughters, I can send you those if it would help you any, also Pendleton is about 3 hrs north of Ontario, so there would always be a possibility he moved from there. My grandfather was Frank Campbell. I have him born 1854 in Ashtabula, Ohio. Lived for many years in Pendleton, Oregon. Was divorced in 1877. Was in Utah writing a book in 1921. He is my brick wall . I can't find where he died or is buried. He was a dentist in Pendleton and was written up in the History of Northwest Oregon and Washington. Could this possibly be a match? I have been looking for 6 years.
His full name is Franklin C. Campbell.

Angus Campbell emigrated from the Isle of Skye to the Whycocomagh/Skye Glen area of Cape Breton in 1833. Married in Scotland, twice, #2 was Mary McDonald, son Ranald born in Skye in 1831, other children born in Nova Scotia: Donald 1835, Sarah 1836, Coll 1838, Margaret 1844, and Jessie Alice in 1847. Sons Donald & Coll had a saw mill and grist mill in Iron Mines in the 1880's, numerous children of all three sons--but I can't find any of the decendants!
Angus and sons buried in the Stewartdale Cemetery outside of Whycocomagh.
I will try this one more time. Are there any Alabama Campbells out there? Been trying to find some for a few years now, but no luck so far. I do believe I am the only one in my family interested.

I have been research some of the ancestors of Conrad Campbell as my
brother-in-law is a great grandson.
Can you tell me where you found his wife Mary's maiden name as Littlefield?
Your listed email address doesn't seem to work
Per Linda Vinson's question regarding time period and places discussed in book:
It ranges from about 1085, Scotland to late 1800s in several of the states along the Atlantic seaboard. VA,NJ,PA,SC and others. Jeanne Spain
For those of you who access to Heritage Quest through your library:
I found today in the book section, a book by Laurence Rawline Gutherie.
The titile is: American Cuthrie and allied families: -----------------------------
-----------------------------( a quite lenghtly title.
If you will go to pages 494 through 510 there is much information on early Campbells. These pages can be downloaded. I found it well worth my
time, and while I did not precisely find my Campbell, I may have found some clues. Jeanne Spain
Thanks for the heads up, Jeanne. Could you tell us what part of the
world/country this book deals with?
Thanks,
Linda (Campbell) Vinson

*****************************************************************
DEar Bonnie,
William Campbell, the son of George and Caty Campbell of Amherst Co VA, did
have a son named George Campbell. This George was born about 1803, so that
makes him very young to have married in 1817. This man is said to have
married Frances F. Wright, d/o Moses Wright, Jr and Polly Cash.
However, 2 of the sons of this same William Campbell did in fact marry girls
named HUDSON. Lawson Campbell married Frances Hudson, and his brother
married Mary Ann Hudson. So a marriage between a Hudson and a Campbell does
fit the profile of this family.
Henry Campbell, s/o George and Caty, did have a son named George, and he
would be old enough to have married in 1817. My records say he married a
girl named Mary Ann, but I have no further info on him.
There is a man named George T. Campbell b. 1770, s/o George, s/o George and
Caty. This man died in 1830, he was married to Eady Burcher Whitehead in
11-9-1794. Could this be a second marriage for him? I just don't know.
Finally, there was a man named George Campbell, who in 1791 married Ann
DePriest. This man was s/o George and Margaret Campbell, of Rockfish, now
Nelson Co VA. Could this marriage to Lucy in 1817 be his second marriage?
I have no idea, just mentioning this. Hudson family is in Nelson Co as
well.
I looked through my files, and I was looking for any man named George
Campbell, who could have been old enough to have married in 1817, and those
are the few names I found which fit the requirements, but I did not find an
exact match for you, sorry.
I hope others will look through their files and come up with some more
possibilities. Let's all work on this one, it is important.
Best regards,
Lilly Martin

I always went to the board, but never thought about it coming back to the
list when I replied... Duh...In back of my mind, I actually wondered how it
got to the list in the first place. Maybe I should do a little more reading on
how it all works. I appreciate the explanation. Going to the board and
posting does certainly insure that more people get the info.
Thanks,
Laura in Alabama
Good afternoon all,
I have been assigned the very pleasant task of locating
.....CAMPBELL cousins. LIVE ONES. *S*
Specifically the male descendants of:
Levi CAMPBELL [d.22Jan1817 LA] m. Sarah WATKINS [b.1763 NC]
This pair arrived with their brood of six during the year 1810
and became settled in the area surrounding what is now known
as....Abbeville in Vermilion Parish.
Why? Well besides wanting to regain our contact were working
with the CAMPBELL DNA project and are very seriously looking
...for male descendants of Levi and Sarahs four sons:
Philander, Benejah, Allen Buck and Levi Hampton
Our goal is to find, and test, one male from each of these four male lines.
Of course...we'd like more from each line...
but THIS is where we are trying to start. *S*
OUR GOAL is to define our family DNA vs. the rest of the CAMPBELLs...as
well as to prove the connections for several
cousins who know theyre connected, but at this present time
...they have no way to prove it with any documentation.
This last is where the DNA is absolutely crucial and we NEED
...to find our cousins...so that we may resolve these issues.
IF...you are a descendant, or know of a descendant anywhere,
please take the time to contact me. Let us know if you are
interested in joining this DNA project.
AND...YES...there were daughters as well:
Elizabeth Betsey and Martha Patsy
I descend from:
Martha Patsy CAMPBELL m. 1819 Samuel Russell RICE
Being a daughter, of a long line of daughters, tracing back to
CAMPBELL...my line wont work for this particular project.
For those descending from...James CAMPBELL m. Unity WEST...
This call for CAMPBELLs for DNA testing may also include you.
Please consider DNA as an option for your family research and
contact me so that youll know which DNA lab/project that we are using. If
at all possible...we would like to keep these
two CAMPBELL families in the same Surname DNA Project.
Just a displaced LA cousin....thanking all for your time,
Lisa Grimes
